  • sick and having a hard time.

Okay, people. I need some help.
I have a bad cold. I feel so groggy, I just want to sleep all day. I'm skipping the gym today. I really wanted to go, but if I'm exhausted right now I can only imagine how pooped I'll be after a workout.
My problem is that I really want comfort foods.
I really want tomatoe soup and grilled cheese, or something from Panera like their bread bowl soup. And even better I would love to eat some refried black beans with plantains and sour cream......Mmmmm.
I shouldn't and I won't, but it's so hard for me right now.
I know these foods won't make my cold better. It's all in my head.

Am I the only one that's felt this way? So far I've been able to fight off the cravings, but I'm tired of chicken soup...plus, I don't want to make anymore of it. I just want some plantains and those beans....
Help me out guys, what do you do in instances like this?

I'm one of the luck ones, I don't crave anything specfic like that but I do get a general craving for something sweet a couple times a week. For that I'll drink a low carb chocolate drink from EAS or Atkins and it does the trick. How about home made clam chowder-no potatoes though. Your mind is throwing a temper tantrum and demanding carbs, don't give in, not even a little. You can make a cream soup out of any vegge you like. Here's the basic recipe, add the vegge you like. You don't need to strain it if you use cauliflower.

    1 lg onion, diced
    1 lb vegge-cauliflower, asparagus..etc,
    1 qt chicken stock
    1/2 pt heavy cream
    salt & pepper to taste
    pinch of nutmeg
simmer the cut up vegges in the chicken stock for 15 min
using an immersian blender or a regular blender, blend till smooth
strain through a fine to medium strainer and toss out the solids
add the now strained liquid back to the pot and add the cream
return to a simmer and cook for 15 min or untill the soup coats the back of a spoon. add the salt and pepper and nutmeg.
Makes 12 cups @ 3.5 net carbs per cup.

Good luck and feel better soon.

Home made soup as suggested by kiobe as well as grilled cheese (if not on bread but on something else like aubergines/eggplant) would be perfectly 'legal'

Atkins can mean finding new 'comfort foods'!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
