  • If you feel like just letting go for one day...

Say it's a weekend, and you are running errands, distracted by the kids, grabbing a bite between stops, or out of the fridge before tackling the vacuuming. You nibble here, and nibble there, and so far you've eaten Atkins friendly foods, but you are sort of losing track and the next thing you know you might have had a serving of sugar free cookies and maybe a tidbit off of your children's plates looks like it wouldn't count tooooo much.

    STOP!!

    STOP right there!!

Take 3 minutes, run to your computer, and log what you have eaten for the day on fitday.com or wherever you keep your carb count. Tally. Write down. Account.

Days like that can be the snowflake landing on the mountainside that gently bumps down a few centimeters, maybe picking up another snowflake or two, tumbling, bouncing, gaining momentum, and then wiping out the peaceful village at the bottom with an avalanche. (This is a diet-breaking metaphor)

But if you pause, just long enough to write everything down, and refocus on your goal, gain control of what you have eaten and re-plan what you are going to eat, you can stop the avalanche in its tracks, roll it up in a tight slushy ball, and hit the skinny prom queen in the back of the head with it because you look so much better than she did now.

Or, do what I just did and post on ADBB.

It's exactly what happened to me today. The sugar free cookies are still on the desk, but I checked and saw that I didn't have enough carbs left today to eat them, so there they remain (I really should put those away).

        Thanks for the kudos, guys!

Great advice!! Having a food journal or using FITDAY and recording everything you eat really helps. Thanks for sharing your day and how you conquered the stress.

That was a really helpful post. The thing that really stood out to me is "gain control." That is seemingly the most important thing I am learning right now. To be in control, and to maintain that control. Thanks for the inspiring words.
