    Re: Infuriatingly low CCLL

Alexa--I'm in this same boat with you and mitzi and blazin and COUNTLESS others. I spent a year spinning my wheels, eating higher rung (specifically DAIRY) and losing so, so, so slowly and eventually started gaining. When I switched my diet to be PRIMARILY veggie, my losses have started again. Just since 9/3/07 I've lost 7 lbs and 10.5"!!!!

I am more strict than others about the dairy. I had to cut out the dairy. Every time I dabble in it again, I have issues (cravings, bloating, gas). I had to cut out nuts too. However, I'll take the losses and the sanity over those foods most any day. The addict in me continues to try to bargain with those foods, but *sigh* the answer is always the same (that I can't eat those foods.)

I found a couple things when I started eating this way: 1) It's a lot easier to control my calories 2) NO CRAVINGS 3) weight loss 4) sanity and peacefulness. I can even eat legumes and some fruit and berries without issue...its the dairy, nuts, alcohol and grains (particularly wheat) that are my problem areas (and I think you'll find this is true for a LOT of us). However, those are the foods that most of us just can't wait to begin "USING" again. And, I use that term very specifically here...as in addicts USING their drug. Someone pointed out to me once that they didn't know of a single person addicted to vegetables(in general), and neither do I. Veggies just aren't made up of the stuff of addictions.

The first veggie challenge opened my eyes a little bit, but there were bigger changes that I needed to make. I visualize my plate and fill 3/4 of it with vegetables and 1/4 of it with protein (preferably a FATTY protein) and the fat as a CONDIMENT. If you do this, the percentages will most always work out.

As mitzi said, you want to keep protein close to, BUT NOT OVER 30%. Then try eating 35-40 net carbs a DAY of vegetables and the rest is fat...whatever the percentage may be.

      Re: Infuriatingly low CCLL

I agree with valid rouge, veggies are so vital...and dairy is so NO NO....dairy bloated me, and caused me to stall...it also made me feel "fluffy" I guess dairy would be ok 1 to 2x a week maybe, but for me, it's gone...calcium supplements for me....i miss my yogurt, but it wasn't worth my tummy sticking out so far that i looked 4 mo pregnant....i actually had someone at work ask me if i was pregnant again, cuz i had lost so much all over and was sticking out in the belly.....that really upset me....not that i wouldn't want more children, but that i looked that obviously bloated....i couldn't stand it...i couldn't even hold my tummy in if i tried. I feel great now that i have transferred over to major veggies...actually, this is the first time during this WOE that i have felt really good and that it is worth all the effort..Honestly i wish the veggie challenge was a month long, not a few days...It made me accountable and made me think about how many veggies i was getting in a day...i'm still doing it, but wish i had somewhere to report it....

        Hi Joy,

Thanks for that - the idea of visualisation on the plate is good. Also your post confirms the importance of veggies. I like the tag line in your signature. I've shifted my menu today to eat more veggies.

A question though - how often do you eat fruit? Do you have issues with it?

Blazing - I've never thought about dairy affecting me, in that I don't bloat (which sounds awful, poor you!) but I think it is a bit addictive in that it is hardest for me to regulate it. I've cut down for this new approach.

        Thanks everyone

Well, Michelle, we can fix that. I am still reporting in the "Stepping Back" thread in the OWL Forum, and I have been noting net veggie carbs. You can start reporting your veggies there, and I will keep an eye on you. Maybe some others will start reporting there, also.

Just a note to everyone here...through Induction, OWL, Pre-Maintenance and even Maintenance, Dr. Atkins said the majority of our carbs should be from vegetables. So if your cheese carbs, nut carbs, grain carbs are higher than the veggie carbs, re-evaluate your menues.
