Well that article does sound scary. If anyone is worried they should talk it over with thier doctor. My doctor just recently told me to start a supplement everyday because I complained of fatigue. Which he said was very normal for mom's
I've never taken vitamins or supplements of any kind, and in spite of Dr A's exhortations don't take them now either. With the notable exception of folic acid while I was pregnant.
I've always felt there was a danger of accumulation in fat for the fat-soluable ones and that the others, which are water soluable, primarily contribute to the production of highly vitamin rich wee.
I know not everyone will agree with me, but I think that modern diets are very rarely truely deficient, unless you're eating complete junk and no veg (and you've more to worry about than vitamins in that case) but I've never been a junk food lover and always ate a lot of veg. And now that the bread, pasta and rice etc (which were a large part of what I ate and are not sources of anything much that isn't readily availale elsewhere) are gone, I reckon I'm ok.
Having said that, I have had cancer (and you'd be amazed at the number of people who try to put guilt on you by saying things like "If only you'd known to take high dose Vit E"). But then again I have recovered from it very well, 4 years fine and counting, although again MANY people were advising me to take all sorts of vitamin/mineral supplements, none of which I took. So make of that what you will.
I did become very overweight of course - do you think a vitamin supplement would have prevented that?????
