  • Something cool happened to me today! Fitness/WOE/Whodathunkit?!




    Okay, so I've become a Jazzercise FREAK. I mean, I love it. I really do. When I spotted it in the Community Education catalog I know my and I . The image that popped in my head was that of Olivia Newton John in her "Let's Get Physical" video (I'm aging myself here, I know. ). I mean big 80's hair, heavy blush, leg warmers, g-string leotards over tights. . I really did. But I had to stop by the Community Center to register my kids for stuff so I figured, . What the heck?! I'll check it out. The first class was free, so I showed up in time to catch it.

    I was more than a little surprised by it! The music was great, the people were of all shapes and sizes and fitness levels - from brand new to uber fit and it was fun! I figured it'd be 30 minutes of dancing around so I was taken by surprise when we did like 35 minutes of heart-pumping aerobics and then did 20 minutes of weight training/abs and then stretched. I left there and really happy. I've been there 5-6 times a week ever since. That was only 7 weeks ago.

    A week ago I started going in 30 minutes early on Mondays and Tuesdays to help the instructor out. She needed help setting up the gym on those mornings and someone to check people in. I thought, "What the heck. I'm gonna be there anyway." - so I volunteered and was really when she gave me my classes for free in exchange.

    Well, today after class the instructors approached me. I thought maybe I'd messed something up on a new student's paperwork or something and was all ready to and cop an attitude if I had to. (Uptight much these days, Brook? ) . I asked what was wrong and that's when she said it...

    "We think you should go and get certified to teach classes and start off subbing in our area! What do you think?!"

    And this leads me to this thought..
    If you'd have told me 5 years ago that I'd be 90lbs lighter, several sizes smaller, a non-smoker, and avid low carber I'd have told you you were . But if you'd have told me that I'd be entertaining the thought of becoming an exercise instructor or have instructor's approach me and tell me I should really think about it, I'd have thought you done lost your mind!

    I don't know if I'm gonna pursue it or not, but I was HUGELY flattered and excited at the thought of it and really.... I think it's just cool!

    I was excited and had to and share!

    Talk about life changing stuff! Sweeeeeeet!!

        That is awesome......a serious compliment if you ask me!!! I should check out Jazzercize......I don't know if I've ever seen anything like that here in Anchorage.

            That is fantastic!! What a total change in your life, it's wonderful. Really inspiring for those of us who can't yet even think about what's ahead without a lingering feeling of "Of course I could never do that". Whatever that is.

              hi brook.....

              you are the perfect fit for this type of thing.....and you just have to do it, i mean, its worth it to help and motivate others. getting certified and such is a piece of cake....oops, i didnt mean to use that word, sorry

              be well.

              oh and on a side note, its wednesday now, and i finally have gotten down to my pre-bachelor party weight again.....it all takes a little time but the results are always worth it!!

                Brook that is really cool. I took a jazzercise class years ago while I was in high school and from what I remember it was pretty good.

                YES become certified and come teach here, I am in small town usa and dont have any thing like that around me I would LOVE IT!

                    Sounds really fun, I love putting together music and workouts.

                    As much as you love it, I think your students would really love you to be an instructor 'cause you see it in a fun way.

                    And this way, won't they pay you to come to class? That would be so very shiny to get paid to go to jazzercise.

                    PS I love all your smiles, really makes the story come to life.

                          Sweet!

                          I think you should think about doing it. It'll keep you committed and accountable to your exercise if nothing else. It's one thing to commit to joining, but another commitment altogether to teach. It's something I think I'd like to do going forward. You're going to workout, so might as well build a little more accountability/commitment into it for the long haul, yanno? Just something to think about...

                            Wow what a wonderful compliment to you and also what a wonderful gift for you to be able to teach what you have learned to others who can benefit from your experience ............ kind of llike Paying it forward and getting paid to do it! So Awesome! Congratualtions!

                              Wow!! Thank you SO much for being excited with me! I really am flattered by it and I'm really thinking about it.

                              I've been doing some reading about it- the certification workshop here is in April. Wouldn't that be a cool 14th 21st birthday present for myself?!!
