  • Fitday Question

So I decided to try FitDay and went with the online version because, well it's free.

1/2 the stuff I am trying to put in isn't in the program! Ground flax for example!

Is the online version that much different from the offline version?

I was also a little frustrated when I put in a custom food (cocoa powder) and it told me that the info on the back of the can was wrong! It kept telling me it was 5 calories vs the 15 stated on the back of the can.

Wondering if it's worth the frustration

    Re: Fitday Question

It takes a little time to get used to Fitday, but I think it is worth it. We probably all tend to eat the same foods quite often, so once you have entered a load of custom foods they tend to be reused again and again. It is extremely valuable weeks later to be able to look back and see what you were eating at some point in the past.

As far as I know the offline version has the same food database, so I don't think it would be any better. I find the online one adequate.

Whenever I have gotten an error when entering custom foods, it's because I have entered something incorrectly - so double check what you are entering. Especially check that you are entering amounts for the same weight/amount of food.

      Re: Fitday Question

I too think the online Fitday has the same database as the offline one.

Just wanted to say that I like the offline version much better, and find it worth the price. It does take a few days to get used to after the online version, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. You do still need to have a big list of custom foods to make using it quick and easy, but it's worth taking the time to build this up.

I like it that I can get a cool graph of my weight too.

        Re: Fitday Question

I have the offline version and I love it. To go with it, i have the "living cookbook" where I can enter and analze complete recipes and get a full nutritional profile that I can enter as a custom into fitday. i was using unused dates on fitday for a while to do this, but it got irritating making sure I wasn't using a date that showed up in my profile.

          Re: Fitday Question

I use the free version. Fitday can defintely be a pain in the a$$ at first. I enter most of my foods as custom foods. I sat down with my laptop in the kitchen, went through my refrigerator and pantry, and entered info from the label of every food and ingredient that I could find that I will be using (even eggs and cheese... and I count them as a carb, even when the label doesn't). I even went through a book of nutrition info for food and picked out some fruits and vegetables and entered them as custom foods, because sometimes it can be tedious to scan through pages of options in Fitday. I mean, really, even finding eggs in Fitday can be frustrating. I know this sounds like a lot of work... and it is, initially. But after everything is entered, it is a breeze.

There is a pull-down menu of recently eaten foods you can use, too. Because I eat a lot of the same foods everyday, it is very easy for me to just click on item in that list.

Don't forget to set a fiber goal, so it will count the fiber for you. Just go under "Goals" on the left side of the screen, and set a goal. It doesn't matter what number you choose... I set my goal as 1, just so it will count the fiber for me. Then, when it shows your totals for calories, fat, carbs, protein, and fiber, you just subtract the fiber from the carbs, and you have your net carbs.

About the labels being wrong some time. They really are, and it is extremely annoying. I have had a few of those in the past couple of weeks... it's pissing me off. It's not that I'm entering the info incorrectly... they really don't add up right. I'm not sure how they can get away with doing that, but they are.

Once again, I will admit that Fitday can take some getting used to. But once you do, it becomes easy and quick. And it has really been a useful tool for me.

          Good luck.

                  Re: Fitday Question

I just purchased the PC version and like it much better. It tracks all your measurements, etc and has a lot of report options. Very worth the $20 as it is so much easier to use than the online version.

                    Re: Fitday Question

The offline fitday also can be set up to deduct your fibre carbs to show your net carbs automatically, and you can drag ingredients into a custom recipe too which is really a useful feature.
Plus there seems to be an unlimited number of favourites and custom foods allowed - I got a bit frustrated when the online version dropped favourites off the bottom of the list when I added new ones.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
