  • I almost lost it last night!

Wow, now I know what a trigger food is! After climbing 7 rungs so far no food had caused me to want to pig out and blow it until last night.

Yesterday, after being on Atkins for 5 months and and not having any sweets, I bought an Atkins fudge bar at the health food store. I took TWO bites and put it down for a couple of minutes to see how it would affect me as I do all new foods added to my diet. Within 5 minutes, I started to crave, crave sweets. It was a mental place I had not been in for months and it scared me.

I asked my husband to take the bar to the garbage and I ate 2 chicken thighs and drank 2 glasses of water. The craving was still there but controllable. Geez....that really opened my eyes!

Man, those Atkins bars are the DEVIL! at least for me.

What do you do when such a craving hits you? What strategies do you use to curb it?

Great job on throwing it away!!! when i get cravings i just try to tell myself that is exactly what they are - cravings, and i'm not really hungry. sometimes i'll make some chocolate whipped cream and it usually helps. i'll also drink water. but when it gets reallreally bad honestly i have a piece of russel stovers sugarfree candy. it doesn't knock me out of ketosis, but i know some people have problems with them, so be careful!!!!

Way to go, you recognize bad trouble and got rid of it. I think you acted perfect and now you know the bars are a no no for you.

          1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.

When I am feeling a craving for a food I know I shouldn't eat, or to overeat on a food I can eat....I drink lots of water, walk, turn on music, re-read my journal or look at my before photos or sign in on the ADBB. So far, this has worked for me.

I do all the things Dream said--eat something legal, drink water, exercise, turn on a movie, go on ADBB...anything to get my mind AND my mouth away from that craving.

Great job on identifying the trigger and dealing with it! WAY TO GO!

I do the same thing everyone above does. I know (from experience) that if I don't nip cravings in the bud immediately, it's gonna get really ugly, really quick.

Wow, that little story is so inspiring. I am on day 8 and could never imagine having the will power to do what you did. I know that feeling of crave and to be able to fight it and win deserves fantastic kudos. Simply amazing and thanks for sharing your story. That is where I want to get to. Losing weight is great, but being able to put down an ice cream because it hit my trigger is priceless.
