  • Dont Go Off Diet For Thanksgiving!

Hey people ... I would highly recommend that people not go off diet for thanksgiving. I have been around the diet stuff for 14+ years now and I have seen too many people fall off after "well I will just go off for thanksgiving then back on the day after"

Just dont do it. Why do you want to pig out and feel bloated? These are just cravings ... deal with them and stick to the diet!!!

Just think of it this way...Your not depriving yourself of the yummy food sitting on the table infront of you but of the extra weight you'd be carring around later.I've lost @20lbs since September that is like putting down two gallons of milk that I've been carring around for a yr. Can you imagine. You know what its like carring one gallon around while shopping in the market @12lbs and what a stress it is on your arms.Keep that in your thoughts every time you loose that amound and it will help deter the thoughts of cheating .

Re: Dont Go Off Diet For Thanksgiving!

Gotta tell you - I'm sitting here, in the kitchen smelling my turkey cooking! Yes - I made a full blown dinner for tonight for my family. My husband works for the actual day, so tonight worked out for me making dinner

There is quite a few things I won't be having that I made (homemade applesauce, green bean casserole, bread, stuffing etc).... but I made legal stuff for myself... I get the cauliflower mocked mash potatoes with gravy (I'm using a legal thickner), green beans, and even DESSERT!!! I made the pumpkin cheese cake from the Atkins site and used liquid sweetzfree instead of splenda to lower the carb count even more. There wasn't a crust so hopefully it will do well.

Making sure I had enough was so easy - I was a little surprised But I'm doing it again on Thursday to take stuff to my mothers house with the kids! There are so many yummy treats you can have that are LEGAL and dang the turkey is just wonderful....I'd rather fill up on that than all the rest of the stuff like I have done in the past.

No need to get super creative with the stuff either - legal green beans or a huge salad, cauliflower, etc - super easy and super yummy!

With turkey, cauliflower casserole, cheeseball with pork rinds and celery, and pumpkin pie available, who needs to cheat?

Re: Dont Go Off Diet For Thanksgiving!

I don't plan on cheating. I am having everything I could possibly desire and all legal. I wrote out my menu a little while ago, and I'm gonna have to cut it back. Too many yummy legal things to make. I'll save some for Christmas. I'm very excited that I found a legal bread recipe that is actually very bread-like. I added some stuffing spices to the recipe and cut it in cubes, which I toasted, and I am anticipating some very yummy legal stuffing this year. What I made last year from the microwave flax bread was okay, but not great. This is gonna be great!

There are so many substitute foods, recipes and ways of celebrating that can keep the day legal and enjoyable. You are all worth it to make the effort to stay focused. We can all do it. If you can't find a recipe or suggestion for something in the forum...just ask. Everyone here is great for helping with any issues that come up!

                    Yep, what she said...

                    Cheating
                    Falling off
                    Giving in
                    "Just one bite"
                    "You've got to try it!"
                    "I deserve it!"

And the list of excuses and names of what we call it when we don't follow this way of eating each day. Holidays are not an excuse to eat, they're a reason to celebrate life. Enjoy your life and don't make an excuse or name for it.

                    Cheers!

thanksgiving is one holiday where i would think......staying with this WOL should really not be that difficult. there are so many healthful foods at the table really, you just have to stay away from any appetizers....if you drink have a glass of wine.....NO EGGNOG PLEASE (hmmm....or can we have that?)....and the pecan pie....definately a no-no.

i think this day should not present any kind of problem for me!!

I have a bunch of recipes for Atkins friendly appetizers. Ya gotta be creative. Dr. Atkins has a recipe for eggnog without alcohol. It's mostly cream, eggs & nutmeg.

Neither my husband nor myself like turkey much, and cooking a huge bird for 2 people....
Well anyway, we are having roast duckling, mixed steamed vegetables(broc, cauli and asparagus), tossed salad and for DH, who is not on Atkins, some stuffing. Dessert is pumpkin custard-low carb- with whipped cream
                          .
the agony of such denial is just killing me!! </end sarcasm>

Sunny, you are simply not allowed to post such a tantalizing idea as legal stuffing and then not post the recipe! Either post it here, or in the recipe section please.
