  • Thanksgiving for a newbie....darn!

It was so hard to resist on yestaurday the temptation. It would have been manybe easier if I had a atkin buddy at the dinner with me. I started out really good just greens, string beans, turkey and chicken. And I live in the south where there's true southern home cooking!! I even only drank water and diet soda. And I hate diet coke!!

but we spent the entire evening over my husbands aunts. and we had soo much fun. after about 5hr hanging out around all the pies and cakes and dressing and mac and cheese. I gave in and got one piece of pecan pie.

I wish this was the end of the story b/c I ate a little dressing and mac n cheese too. The carb monster wouldn't just let me have my pie. I guess I know better now and I'll bring a low carb dessert next year and for christmas. I am jumping right back on the wagon though. I don't have too high of a metabolic resistance b/c I'm young and am use to gorging on carbs. So I do think this is a set back but that I can recover. What does everyone think about how to go about recovering after this blow?? after only 22 days of starting atkins? also what do we call this on the boards? Would I be "coming back" to Atkins since I'm starting over and do I need to change my start date on my info??????????

If you have gone out of ketosis then you might need to return to induction eating for a few days, then once you have the signs (keto-breath, lack of appetite, etc) and have got rid of any cravings you can go back to wherever you were in OWL.

So no need to change any stats unless you experience a large 'waterweight gain' which doesnt go away after a few days.

The big thing apart from getting straight back on-plan foodwise is to work out now how you are going to manage at the next 'carb-fest'.

Reading some of the recent threads here showing how some members managed to plan and eat perfect Atkins-legal meals will give you some ideas and tips I am sure on how to plan your own strategies.

One of our past members used to have this quote in her signature, which I have taken for my constant reminder
Failing to plan is planning to fail
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Planning is the answer.......I spent weeks adjusting all my recipes to low carb. We had a full blown dinner. I made dressing from low carb bread, fresh cranberries cooked with Splenda, low carb chocolate pudding, good "fake" mashed potatoes, buscuits made from low carb recipe.......it just takes alot of patience and time. My daughter walked away from the table stuffed and happy. She did miss the pies and such, but she tried on a pair of jeans that she had worn before her weight loss and decided pie wasn't so important.

Next time you're going to a function that will surely "kill" your carb intake, fill up at home first......that's what my daughter does...........

I love, love, love this post. Kudos and pats on the back for being such a supportive mom! My DD is thirteen and she does this along with me. I also teach children in her school how to read food labels and how many different forms of sugar there are. Children are like sponges when it comes to learning. Teach them when their young about healthy eating habits. They will take it with them throughout their journey and teach it to their children. You're a great mom!

From time to time, when my daughter is invited to an "eating" frenzy, she'll wear her tightest jeans to show off her weight loss.......all the compliments keep her from jumping in to the food...hahahahaha Of course, it gives me a heart attack to see her dressed like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again..........SHE FILLS UP WITH "HER" FOODS BEFORE SHE GOES

              Re: Thanksgiving for a newbie....darn!

I've been doing this longer than you, but I have put in the effort over time to make perfectly legal recipes of old favorites that are at least as good or better than the old carb garbage. I had the turkey, but I also had the best stuffing I have ever made, made from bread with very little carbs. I had a cheesy fauxtato dish with bacon and lots of cheese, which was delicious, as always. I made it when my skinny sister was here and she liked it so much, she asked for the recipe, and she hates to cook. I had a really scrumptous cranberry-orange salad and cranberry relish too--very low carb. I also had green beans cooked with ham and for dessert, pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting. I could have made a pumpkin pie, but I don't like it. It took some doing to come up with these recipes, but it is worth it to not only keep off those 120 pounds, but I'm still losing.

Check out these pictures of my feast--I took the time to take pictures before eating, to show others what a wonderful legal meal we can all have if we only want to bad enough. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...6&page=1&pp=10

dont ever forget that it is YOU who is in control now. i hope you enjoyed thanksgiving and now just go back to doing the right things!! i had a great thankgiving and i was cognizant of all the foods that i ate ( but wasn't supposed to ) yet i will be accountable for what i have done. this is all a part of the process as we learn what are bodies are capable of handling / not handling. thus begins the balancing act of life....a learning process that will become a way of life and for which we will all grow stronger!

Good attitude! We have to change years, and sometimes a lifetime, of wrong thinking and it doesn't happen overnight. This is what is so wonderful about this WOE and WOL. The most important thing is to remember to jump right back on the very next bite, the very next meal and don't give into the carb-craving monsters who escaped from their cave when you gave in to carb crap. Then, plan, plan for the next holiday feeding frenzy. You can do it!
