  • Please help, im feeling so lost bout this, and its only day one....again!

HI everyone! wow this is once again my first day on Atkins, I started on Monday, prepared my lunch for the next day to take to work....i love sauces and spices so cutting all that out was hard, so i added tons of pepper in all my foood for some flavour....but then i read on a site taht black pepper has soo many carbs, so i threw all that food away, ate sum carbs last night, and started again today.

My atkins book finally came, was bit dissapointed to see that there was no menu idea in the induction section, so i really have no idea what to eat

i found a sample menu on the atkins website, where having a atkins chocolate as a snack was included in induction, like every second or third day...someone on here mentioned having atkins chocolates are a no no on induction

im soo confused, like if we allowed mayonaise, i went to the store, and looked at every bottle and brand of mayonaise i could find, and guess what, sooo full of carbs aargh...

now im thinking am i adding too much fat in my diet, coz it certainaly feels like it, am i missing some thing? how do people lose weight on this diet seriously, if anyone has an induction menu or sample menu that is successful in weight loss please would u kindly share it with me

for breakfast today i had 2 eggs and some tomotoe

lunch turkey diced up with bacon, orange pepper, lettuce, and celery, with olive oil and vinegar and salt as i believe salt has 0 carbs.

with a few cups of decaff coffee

dinner tonight i fried sum mushrooms, orange peppers and mushrooms in olive oil and two lamb chops with teh fat.... no snacks, i might add cheese to my dinner

like how many eggs and fat are we actually allowed to lose weight, im feeling down bout this and not sure if this is the right diet for me or unless im missing some secret thats not in the book

for breakfast tomorrow i made a tuna omlet with olive oil

lunch mackeral smoked fish, peppers, lettuce and mushrooms drenched in olive oil and vinegar

dinner not sure yet...but [please advise me if im messing up
i really need to lose weight and i hope this works,

    please help

where did you read about the pepper? spices and stuff are fine, you just have to count them in your carb count, ensuring that you dont go over 20 net carbs and remembering that most of your carbs should come from veggies!

For Menu ideas, have the acceptable foods list in front of you, pick out what you like, plan a weeks menu from that, planning is the key!
theres lots of recipes at www.genaw.com/lowcarb the items marked with a * are induction friendly

stay away from processed foods, this includes the bars and the shakes, they only end up slowing your weightloss and are not really legal until the OWL phase of this way of eating.

Mayonaise is fine, hellmans is okay, most full fat mayos are okay, jut check the carb count, anything marked low fat, stay away from!

there is a lot of fat in this 65% of your diet should be fat, so it sounds lie you're doing fine!

make an account at fitday.com and input your foods, this will be an essential tool to you, and will check out your percentages on food - the guidelines are 65% fat 5% carbs 30% protein.

eggs are allowed liberally, as is fat, its nothing you need to worry about too much, but you do need to count the carbs, fitday.com will do that for you!

are you measuring your veggies so that youre not going over the cup count?

What you are having sounds fine to me. Black pepper does have a small amount of carbs, but I can't see where the amount you would use to season could have enough to hurt you. It has a very small amount. Anyway, throwing away low carb food because of seasoning that does not contain sugar and then eating real carbs won't help.

Eating fat will help you lose weight. I lost 120 pounds eating more fat than I ever did before in my life. When my loss slowed down, it was usually because my fat was low. I didn't use much in the way of menus or recipes in the beginning, because I wanted to use mostly fresh, whole foods.

There are a lot of recipes for low carb sauces that you can try. I won't tell you what to do about mayonnaise, though, because you are in England. Real mayonnaise in the USA doesn't usually have much or any carbs. I use a brand with no sugar, but it's only in the southern states.

Go back and read all about induction in the book and follow those rules, and pay no attention at all to the Atkins website. This might end up not being the diet for you, but you need to try it by Dr. Atkins rules before you decide.

I just checked the Atkins online carb counter and a whole teaspoon full of black pepper has less than 1 net carb. You couldn't eat that much in a serving of food if you tried. Here's a link to carb counts for herbs and spices

thank you both so much for your advice....i was just wondering since i have a lot to lose if i stay on induction phase a lot longer then 14 days, should i keep eating that amount of fat, and eggs liberally? would the method in the 14 day induction apply still if i continue it for a couple of weeks longer?

It's fine to stay on induction longer than 14 days and fine to eat that much fat and to eat eggs as much as it takes to make you satisfied. Eggs are one of the most perfect foods in the world. Atkins is high fat and moderate protein. It is fat plus carbs that make you store fat--not the fat alone. When you increase carbs (even good carbs) your fat goes down in proportion. You still are able to eat plenty of fat.

It is better if you don't stay on induction for too long for many reasons. A lot of people lose better on at least the first rung of OWL.
