  • I don't know how much more I can take!

Ugh! Christmas party Saturday: lots of pizza and candy. I gave in and had 2 pieces of pizza and a couple of cookies.

Saturday night I stayed home from another party because I couldn't eat like that again. Plus I didn't have a babysitter and didn't want to spend the whole night running after an 11 month old. But I was really worried about the food.

Today: it's a snow day again, and people are again bringing in donuts and coffee. Despite me being on this way of eating since July, I still feel so weak. I saw those donuts and was like "just one won't hurt". But it will!!! I keep telling myself, it will.

On a good note, I've lost 6 pounds in the last 2 weeks back on induction.

So, I'll keep my eyes from the donuts and will walk around them if I need to go near them.

Dontcha just wish you could be normal and eat whatever you want sometimes??

pizza....YIKES. is so so beyond "just good".......it is one of the true temptations of the person trying to lose weight. i have come across it in the past few weeks and have stood strong, luckily. also nachos, they are so tough for me to resist. not the ones you get when you go to a restaurant, but rather....the ones i have learned to make right here in my home. DOUBLE YIKES!!! but i have resisted them.

    holiday parties are tough.......

Its hard I know - especially at this time of the year! Hang in there and recommit to your goal every day. Keep your goal in mind and make sure you ALWAYS have atkins friendly goodies with you - especially at parties!!!!!! GOODLUCK!

I often am confronted with scenarios such as those. I carry a picture in my wallet. A really bad and fat picture. I look at that before deciding if I want to eat this or that....When in a pinch with pizza, try to have the toppings only. It's not ideal but much better than filling your belly with all of that dough. You just have to reach deep within yourself and do whats right.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take!

Ditto on what Donna and Jen said.
You just have to keep with that "just one will hurt" mindset. I have been doing Atkins since July and up until recently I felt weak as well. But there comes a point when you realize that you just can't keep cheating, because you're only cheating yourself of your goal weight, your goal dreams, your goal everything--including a better life with your 11 month old.
Another mistake I made on this journey was cheating just to cheat. Don't do it. I don't even know why I did it, but I did. I just wanted to slap myself after I did it. If something tells you to not even look at that food, don't look at it. Pizza, and this is a HUGE temptation for me, isn't going anywhere but your life is. Every day it's escaping you, so make the most of it and live in the best way that you can.
So stop looking at the pizza, the candy, and the other holiday goodies because they're always going to be there tempting you. Temptation is ALWAYS there, that doesn't mean you have to give into it. Don't even let yourself think you can eat those things, just tell yourself they're off limits and soon you will have eliminated them from your food choices. This woe takes hard work and dedication. Stay strong *hugs*

Re: I don't know how much more I can take!

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to a holiday brunch next weekend and I'm bringing a fantastic Sausage Quiche I got from Linda's Low Carb website. It's fantastic.

And double ugh... someone just brought in cookies and rugulah. I need to ask if people can bring in cheese and pepperoni for me!!

Re: I don't know how much more I can take!

Is is possible for you to bring in a lc plate you can share with others? That way you have something to eat and perhaps others may want some as well.

I was reading that in GCBC (Good Calories, Bad Calories) by Gary Taubes that it can take 18 months or more to lose cravings. If you give in before then your cravings will stay strong.

Sounds like a long time, I know. Pizza is also my trigger.

Do you have the minute muffin recipe made with flax meal? It's a great alteranative to having a donut. You can even dress it up with cream cheese chocolate frosting made with cocoa. You can also dress it up with nuts on top if you're on the nut rung. It's very delicious and so healthy for you. They're so easy to make, you can make a few ahead of time and cut them in half to frost. Take them with you to work and share. You may be able to start a new trend at work.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take!

                  Hi!
Good job losing 6lbs! whoot whoot!
I went to a holiday party yesterday too... I was able to stay strong wearing my cute new outfit and boots... feeling like a different person around people who hadn't seen me in a while and wanted to know what I was doing... All that helped me stick to what was right. So, I had green beans, salad, and meat and clung to my cup of decaf coffee for dessert... and talked about Atkins! lol! I feel so good today not having cheated. That sense of accomplishment just may carry me through the next party on Wed. I hope so anyways. It just isn't worth it to give in! (which I've done in the past.)
You should definately bring your own special treats in to work with you... work is really hard. I deal with cookies, pizza, candy etc... all the time. I try to make extra special lunches so I don't feel deprived. I don't get a lunch break long enough to go out, so I'm stuck there with what ever I bring. I try hard to bring a good variety so I feel like I have my own treats without cheating.
                  Hang in there!

My resolve to not cheat is greatly improved with education. Taubes book Good Calories/Bad Calories has me highly motivated. If you are totally convinced your food is better than theirs you have a much better chance.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take!

Ah, pizza. There was a time I tried making my own low-carb version. My sister sent me some low-carb wraps which I tried to use in place of pizza crusts. I put low-cab toppings like cheese and deli cuts and shoved the whole thing into a toaster oven. It didn't turn out quite as planned (it was too floppy) but it was good enough to kill any pizza urges.

Once I figure out how to make low-carb wraps I may do some experimenting again.

Edit: Oh yeah, that reminds me...
