  • question about weightloss during holidays

So I have done atkins in the past and went from 182 to 132, and then slowly over 3 years have gained weight am now at 152. So I decided that I need to get my butt back in gear, so here I am. I told myself that if I didnt start now which was 12/9/07, then come the new year I might have another 10 lbs on top of the 20 that I have to lose. But people have been talking to me about a friend of mine who also started atkins recently, and they have been saying nothing but bad things. (Why is she starting around the holidays?. She is not going to lose weight, if you starts before Christmas. That is the dumbest time to start, she needs to start at the first of the year). I didnt say anything since I just started induction also. I say to myself, it is better to start now and be in control, then to be way out of control at Christmas and gorge yourself on holiday foods. What do you all think?? What would you say to skeptics that always have something negative to say?

Forget the skeptics!! If you feel ready then do it. It doesn't matter what time of year it is!
I started Atkins on Dec 8th, 2005. Sure I had to fight cravings at all those holiday parties, etc but it was worth it 100%!
If you're ready, don't put it off - just do it!
    Good luck! ♥

I think youre doing the right thing.

What would I personally say to them? not much, my health is far more important that someones comments to me or what someone thinks about my way of life.

I'm sure someone else will be along with some smart comments for you to make to people!

Hey Sweetz, I think it's great you're starting now. If we always wait around until after the next holiday we will NEVER start!

I wouldn't worry about the skeptics. They're probably the ones that a) are a perfect size 2 or b) make a new year's resolution to lose weight at the start of the year and abandon their plan a week into it. Just do what feels right for you. Good luck to you and Happy Losing!

Re: question about weightloss during holidays

Thanks everyone. I am really excited to get this weight off. I am starting a new journey in my life come next May, I will be graduating from college. Then me and my husband will be moving across the country and starting a family. I plan on (hopefully) getting pregnant around next July-August. And I definetely want to be at goal, so that I dont gain pregnancy weight ontop of what I weight right now. I want to be at goal so that I can be at a healthy weight and be pregnant at a healthy weight and have a healthy baby. This is so exciting, I can do this. I have been saying that for years as I preogressively gained a few extra lbs a year but I have major things happening in my life and there are no more excuses. I am now doing this for my future. Have a very Merry Christmas everyone

Good for you on starting right away - you are right, the only thing to be gained by waiting is extra pounds to lose.

I do think you need to plan for the holidays though. A great place to find some yummy low-carb and induction friendly treats is Linda's site - I firmly believe that if you treat yourself, but legally, you are far less likely to succumb to the tempation of all the higher carb goodies that are bound to be all around you.
