  • Doctor's Report...FINALLY!

last summer when my hair was falling out like crazy, my doc ordered a bunch of bloodwork. i was supposed to make an appt. to go in and see him for the results...well, i finally did go, today!

first of all, he was SHOCKED to see me. in all, i have lost almost 70 pounds but about 45 since he saw me last. my BP was a little high but that could be due to the fact that i had to sit and wait for him for TWO HOURS~.

he told me that the bloodwork could not look better than it does. my thyroid is great, all the hormones are great but best of all, my cholesterol is FANTASTIC! he said the ratios are really good and the bad cholesterol number is GREAT! he was really excited and of course...wanted to know HOW. when i told him, he was even MORE excited. he is a real advocate of atkins. he was also thrilled with my level of exercise.

bad news is that he is referring me to a "gyno-urologist" for a pesky problem....hopefully we can get that resolved but all the rest is good news!!! and...the hair is not falling out anymore. now i am waiting for it to grow back. i am glad to know that atkins did more than help me drop the weight. the numbers show that it IS healthy. you can't argue with those numbers!!! i am doing the happy dance tonight.

Congrats.. This is really exciting.. I am planning to thrill my doctor as well when I see her early Feb. We have known her for long time and I promised her I will drop some pounds and do some exercise. My Tri is little high (prior to Atkins), so hopefully by Feb 08 things change.

    Congrats again.. Another great testimony

              Re: Doctor's Report...FINALLY!

good morning all! yep, it's HEALTHY ME!!!! i just wanted to add this. i have ALWAYS had a fear of doctors. no reason why. i just do. i DO however go regularly because we, especially we WOMEN.....MUST take that responsibility. we tend to take care of everyone else first. truth is, they'd be in trouble without us. mama always said no one is gonna do if for you. my son told me the other day NOT to get sick again (like i did with the flu at thanksgiving) because in 3 days, things kinda fell apart. imagine if it was worse than the flu!

so if you are ending 2007 or starting 2008 and YOU have not taken the time or have been procrastinating about your yearly physical.....JUST DO IT. ask for a complete blood panel. my doc does a pelvic ultrasound. over 40? GET THAT MAMMO! some insurances will give you MONEY BACK for doing so. make your list of questions. tell your doc you need his time. when i did, mine just pulled up a chair and crossed his legs and said "let's talk." KNOWLEDGE is POWER. if you are afraid of your numbers, then think of them as your starting point. nowhere to go but better. Or you might be in for a pleasant surprise.

whatever your situation....YOU are responsible for YOU. so many things are preventable. JUST DO IT. your body is the most important thing you have. doesn't it deserve a check up? have a GREAT and HEALTHY day!

                Re: Doctor's Report...FINALLY!

Betsy, congratulations on your bill of good health! I'm glad to hear your worries about the hair has worked itself out. It does freak people out...but it happens whenever our bodies are stressed. Weight loss/gain is a big stressor on the body. I have a friend at work who Put ON weight rapidly and her hair is falling out too. So, it doesn't matter which direction the weight fluctuation goes...the same stress reaction happens.

As to your lipid profile..that is EXCELLENT. Its great that we have the PROOF that following the Atkins plan the way it's meant to be done is a very very healthy way of eating. I wish that same thing for every member of this board.

I 100% agree with your advice to have that annual exam with your doctor and taking the INITIATIVE to say "lets talk". So many times they are so busy, or so intent on their paperwork that they don't take the time to just talk and listen. It's very important, so make sure that you actually TALK to your doctor. If they won't take that time with you....find a new doc!

Betsy, that is SUCH great news! First and foremost, I'm very glad you are so healthy and that the problems you were concerned about turned out fine (except for that lovely uro-gyno issue...). And secondly... what a great Atkins testimony! I'm thrilled for you.
