  • Hello, Newbie here...

Hello everyone. I have hung around in the background for a long while reading all of your wonderful posts. You are all truly inspiring to me. I am going to start my induction on Jan. 1 with my husband.

I look forward to talking with all of you and heeding any advice you can throw at me when I get lost.

I do have a question for you though... my insurance company has a weight managment program that pays for a large part of a very nice facility that sets you up with a personal trainer and a nutritionist. I am concerned that when I have my first meeting with the nutritionist I will be told not to follow the Atkins way of life. I guess my question is, are any of you under the wing of a trainer and/or nutritionist that doesn't like the fact that you are following Atkins?? I am hoping that my decision to follow the Atkins way of life will not affect my ability to be part of this program because this is the plan that I know I can follow and be successful.

Thank you all in advance for the great help you are going to be. Having read posts for so long before deciding to register has given the opportunity to see how supportive you all are.

Is there anything in the information about this program stating that you have to follow a particular way of eating? I can't imagine the company would discriminate against anyone chosing to follow the Atkins plan. Check it out & see what the scoop is.

Welcome to ADBB! This is a wonderful place for support & encouragement.

          Welcome!
I agree with Einy. If you haven't done so already, read the book (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition). It'll give you lots of knowledge to fight off any naysaying doctors or nutritionists. It's easy to come across those who take whatever they learned in med school for granted and without question, and to whom the food pyramid is sacred. Things are changing but it's gonna take time...

          Happy losing!

You could just not mention Atkins and see what she has to say first... take in the information she gives, then after reading DANDR you can follow what you want to do, and just let her think what ever she wants... if your insurance will pay for a trainer... that would be awesome! Not every healthcare professional dislikes Atkins, so you just may find support when you least expect it! Don't let others opinions keep you from achieving your goals!
Good luck and keep us posted!

              Welcome to our ADBB family

As to the 'A' word and your worry about your trainer's possible reaction to it, maybe you can take the attitude that you have decided to avoid 'the whites' (sugar, flour and rice) and concentrate on upping your vegetables without mentioning the word 'Atkins'?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                Re: Hello, Newbie here...

Thank you all for your welcoming me and for your input. I am going to give this my all and become one of the success stories (fingers crossed while typing).

I think that I just may go with the limiting the "whites" explanation when I meet with this person. Thank you all again.
