  • question about new years.

I figured that this may be a good place to ask this question because more people are on here than the OWL forum. I was wondering, I am on the 2nd rung of the OWL and am getting ready to move on the the 3rd. Will it hurt me if I have some drinks on new years or should I opt for something else. Hubby is kind of sad that I won't be able to join in and I just wanted to double check. If it is going to harm the loss that I have had so far or knock me out of ketosis I will not drink any but I wanted to make sure. I am not sure of the answer, though I am thinking that it will be no, and I don't want everyone to think that I am not commited. I am happy with my loss so far and hope to continue it. Thanks.

This is the second time trying Atkins and hopefully this time it will be a permanent life change for me.

I have had wine twice during the past three months even though I am still on OWL 1 and found it made me retain water for a few days and it did slightly stall my weight loss.

      Re: question about new years.

According to the book, drinking some alcohol will not "knock you out of ketosis" it just "delays" fat burning until the alcohol burns off. Beer and wine all have at least some carbs but "hard" liquor (bourbon, scotch, vodka, gin) have no carbs. However, if you mix it with regular soda, juice, mixers, etc. then the carbs in what you mix the liquor with can really add up. Plus, some people are more tempted to overeat or make bad choices when they have a few drinks.

I had a few drinks (martini, bourbon and water, brandy) 1 night about 2 weeks ago right after I finished induction and I did not regain any weight and in fact lost an additional 2 pounds that week.

I am not trying to encourage you to drink if you really don't want to but I don't think a modest amount of alcohol that one night would be too dangerous. You know yourself best--enjoy yourself whatever you decide.
