  • Mysterious cravings

Up until now I never really had cravings in the evening after dinner, never ate before bedtime. But this last few days it has been baaaad - I just want to DEVOUR sweet things and have had the worst time not raiding my son's christmas stash. Not during the day at all, just in the evenings.

I couldn't understand it, but then it struck me what had changed. Someone gave me a vanilla caramel scented Yankee candle at Christmas, and I've been lighting it every evening. Darn thing is creating a Pavlovian response...... smell caramel, WANT caramel!!!

Who'd have thought a candle could make you fat???

    Re: Mysterious cravings

Kate, I absolutely CAN NOT burn any candles in my house that smell like baked goods. They drive me CRAZY!

I also have a rough time going past those Pretzel places in the mall for the very same reason.

It's the same reason that around 11am all the fast food places have huge fans that blow the scent of their foods out into the air. It's in their actual marketing plan!

Saturdays after I do the farmer's market I am always hungrier than I used to be - why? Because I set up right next to the bread/bakery guys!!

I find if I get the late night cravings (not hunger), I will try to drink about 16 oz water. Then I to full to consider it anymore.

Yikes! Thanks for the warning, I love the Yankee Christmas Cookie candle.

I'm not even big on sweets, but I do crave them when I know I can't have them. If I decide to go off my eating plan and consume a bunch of junk food I don't even bother with sweets.

Thanks for the heads up about candles. I usually only have fruit scents but it's something to consider if my cravings get out of hand.
