Hello everyone, I just wanted to take a minute to share a project I'm starting with my family. Hope you don't mind my checking in here regularly as this forum will be a part of my adventure.
I realized a few months ago that my husband had absolutely no idea how much I weighed (267 lbs) or how emotionally hard it is for me to be a fat person. As he has never had to worry about his weight EVER, I was terrified that he would run screaming from the room if he found out that I weigh 80 lbs more than he does. But, I also realized that since he is my best friend - and at times an unwitting saboteur) I needed him on my side with his eyes wide open to my extreme need to lose weight. First, I convinced him to watch the show "Biggest Loser" with me. We were both moved to tears at times and he struggled realizing that I felt the same way as many of the contestants since I'm very good at putting on a happy front. Second, I asked him to honestly guess my current weight (he guessed low by 50 pounds!!!). Then I asked him to consider how best to help me in my quest. He's very good about supporting my new Adkins cooking plan and he read through some of the posts earlier so he has a clue about what I'm up against. He sat me down tonight and gave me this suggestion: He wants us to do our own biggest loser at home. He'll give me weekly challenges each Sunday (my first challenge is to just get out of the house to do something active for at least 15 minutes per day every day) and then have a "reward" if I meet the challange. Although he hasn't told my what my reward will be he gave me some ideas that he had been thinking of for the first few weeks: renting a 'chick flick' and curling up on the couch after the kids are in bed; making our dinner for a week (based on my recipes); a foot rub - all things that rarely happen in our home just based on a lack of time and energy. Each week the challenges will increase in difficulty and the rewards will increase as well. He's promised to keep each one a surprise and make them worth my while. He'll also keep track of my fitday.com page so he can see my progress and read my journal (if I'm okay with him doing so that day). I'm very excited about this as it will be the first time I've really included him in my weight loss commitment.
Does anyone have any suggestions to add? I'll be logging my progress here weekly (I weigh in on Sunday's) and my husband has also agreed to help me do some of the neat things I see in other posts (pictures, success charts, etc.) to make my posts less boring.
