  • Possible Kidney Problems

I know the kidney posts have been beat to death, but I wanted some opinions.

My wife has been having flank pain for the last month. After all the blood work came back normal, Our Dr finally got the results from the Cat Scan and called my wife in for the results today.

Apparently she has an undetermined mass on both kidneys. The Doc says worse case is cancer, best case is harmless tumers and scheduled her for a ultrasound next week. The plus is kidney cancer is extreamly rare.

We had started induction today as part of our new years resolutions. This blow has us doubting if she should continue on induction even though her kidney function was normal, and this way of eating may help her in the long run.

Our Dr is a great Doc & Friend but isnt exactly pro Atkins so discussing with him isnt a real option.

    Any thoughts or experence?

    Thanks

      Lasergeek,

Although I understand how frustrating sometimes it is discussing the matter with a physical that’s not a pro-Atkins, I still urge you to take his advice. Dr. Atkins himself asked the readers in several locations in his book, to ALWAYS ask for your doctor help before starting this WOE.

I am sure the great users of this forum are very knowledgeable and will support you all the way, but still no matter how your doctor views Atkins, you still need to listen to his/her advice.

May be some of the users here live near your area and can refer you to his/her physician for a second opinion on whether Atkins is good for your wife or not.

      My 2c here..

Wish you guys all the best...

        Re: Possible Kidney Problems

Just want to say that I do hope your wife gets good/safe results from the tests.
I would put Atkins on hold until you get these, and then get advice from a doctor (a different one, if you don't feel happy with your own doctor's thinking).

Dr Atkins said that this way of eating will not cause problems for those with healthy kidneys, but to get good medical advice (and maybe choose another way of eating) if you have kidney issues before you start.

        Please do keep us posted.
