Re: How To Look Great Naked

I have seen the commericals... But I canNOT imagine posing naked in this body.. Heck I was so modest when i was thin.. I KNOW I would not do it..

I think it is important though to teach women to LOVE themselves...whether they are a size 1 or a size 28.... But we KNOW that a size 28 isn't healthy... But heck when I was a size 12 I felt fat...and that isn't good

it would have a better argument that this is about body image if they were using normal weight women who thought they were fat.

Re: How To Look Great Naked

You're right Emma, most are not massively overweight that I've seen either. But it just seems like the thin end of the wedge of this movement, and it is a movement, that says it's ok to be fat. It's such an easy trap to fall into, believing that it's ok to be fat is much easier than dealing with it and it can be very comfortable to believe that those who say different are the ones who have the problem. It's not ok actually, it's unhealthy, shrinks your world and will cause you to grow old (if you are lucky) in pain and sickness.

Oh i completely agree, when i've watched re-runs of the first few shows i would be behind you all saying this show is completely moronic, but i think they've learned that its just not okay to say that fat is good and it seems that certainly in the last series theyve all been pretty slim women with a terrible self image of themselves, fat goggles an all that, i love Gok and i love the show, now theyve sorted their heads out a bit!!
I also like the bit where they test different products! i've trusted lots of those results!

Re: How To Look Great Naked

I am going to have to tune in to this one as well.

I am constantly troubled by the number of overweight kids (anywhere from toddlers to adolescents) that I encounter every day at work and am constantly searching for ways to **gently** address this with the parent and sometimes the kids themselves. Many parents get a bit defensive when I try to question them about the child's diet and level of activity. My concern for them is for self esteem and health issues and I feel remiss in my professional obligation if I do not at least try to address it. I really get concerned when I see a 2 or 3 year old in a stroller eating a bag of Cheetos and drinking a soda .

I have one long term patient who is 15 and just topped 300 pounds. Mom is trying to get someone to evaluate her for a gastric bypass. I have worked with them for YEARS trying to get a handle on the situation (including lab work--all normal except for elevated insulin level recently meaning she is pre-diabetic at this point) but the mom feels she has no control over what the kid eats (bull IMHO) and the kid actually (with tears in her eyes) tells me she does not care how she looks. It just makes me sad... Shows on TV that advocate "fat is okay" are just wrong...

I think the idea of the shows like this are to say feel good about who you are no matter how you look, there is always something oyu an do. Honestly a really good friend of mine has a grandson who jut had a child about 4 months ago and to totally honest that kid looks like buddah <weight wise and being bald> they feed him whenevre he whines, crys, fusses, throws a fit. <sigh> I told him if the didn't start feeding the baby right i was going to get social services involved. needless to sy the baby now looks like a HEALTH litle boy. not a basket of rolls.

Amen to all you said Pam regarding the children you encounter in your office. I worked in a pedi office for 1.5 years & it was just heartbreaking to see these kids. The parents were so difficult to deal with.

Kudos to you & your work!

A part of the show last night that I really liked was Carson showing the girl the three women with their faces covered up and talking about who looked healthier, had the better esteem and what not. It turned out to be the same person in all three pictures, goes to show you how we can look different and feel different just by paying attention to how we dress. I would have never guessed it was the same person. Looked like at least a 20 lb. difference between the different pics.
