  • Eating on Long Haul flights

I'm worrying already over this. I'm doing so well over my induction, have had a completely clean approach so far, and I've lost 6 lbs since Jan 1st. But next week I fly back to the US. It's 9 hours on a plane, and I haven't flown that far whilst being on Atkins, since they stopped allowing you to take your own food and drink on.

I've called the airline to see if I can organise my own food, but to no avail, and in my experience they like to stuff you full of carbs. There's no way I can go without food for that amount of time.

I'm thinking I'll just have to stuff myself full of legal foods before I go through security at the airport and literally run off the plane to eat again haha.

Could you bring some snacks in a bag or tupperware? When I flew from Spain I brought some olives and cheese and meat in my carry-on.

How long ago was that? When I flew back to the UK in October, I wasn't allowed any food or drink through security at all. The only exceptions they were making were for baby food and that had to be tested (and you had to have a baby with you)

And off topic but I spent a few months in Manassas back in 2004! I loved it there

Who're you flying with? I fly US airways and theres lots of options when i book my flight, i usually choose a gluten free meal, its about the best one ive found thats near enough to the Atkins WOE or at least theres something edible in it anyway.

I'm sure gluten free was an option, I'll call them tomorrow and see if I can choose that. I wasn't sure if gluten free was fewer carbs or just replaced carbs lol.

It was about two years ago I flew, but yeah I guess it varies from airline to airline. I flew British Airways last time, and before that, Lufthansa. And I'm kinda new to Manassas myself! Nice place, lots of stuff here.

I believe they are more strict about liquids than solids -- so you should be able to do veggies, olives, string cheese, beef jerky (though be sure you drink lots of water -- and get an aisle seat! )

Hope you have a good, safe, legal flight!

                  Here's a list:

It seems there are only restrictions on liquids and gels or gel-like items.
