  • Just a quick tip: An alternative to scale obsession, weekly pictures!

I just wanted to offer up a little alternative suggestion to worrying about the scale all the time. I see a lot of folks here talk about inches instead of weight, and that's really important to keep focusing on in the weight obsessed world we live in.

One of the things I've found was *really* useful for me and others in various Atkins communities was taking weekly progress pictures of yourself and not looking at them until you can get 5 or 6 weeks side by side.

The differences are amazing. When you look at yourself every day in the mirror you tend to be over critical, not see the changes that others see... at least I do

Case in point, the last time my wife and I did Atkins I was determined not to obsess about the scale and my weight, I was only weighing myself once a week. I lost a bunch of weight that first week, but we all do as the water retention goes away. The rest of the month, I saw very small losses in comparison to what other friends were seeing as we did Atkins together as a group, and it was pretty disheartening... but we had started the 4 week picture challenge, and when I got the first 4 pictures together side by side, I was blown away and it REALLY motivated me. Keeping those pictures and adding to it every few weeks kept me going for more than a year, it was one of my best tools.

If you haven't thought about doing this, I'd highly recommend it.

That is a fantastic idea. I hate the scale and tend to be disheartened whenever I step on it even if I know I've lost! Thanks!!
