    Re: Intermittent fasting...update

Thanks for your reply, Boo1667. Congratulations on your weight loss! It appears your induction was quite a success. I certainly wish I had it in me to stick to induction. I have started and re-started it so many times I just felt like doing this after a while:

After reading in "Good Calories, Bad Calories" about hunger and metabolism, I have come to the conclusion that it is MUCH EASIER to LOWER your metabolism than it is to raise it. However, since I don't plan on doing this every single day, but rather just Monday thru Friday, and just eating normal, low-carb fare on the weekends, I'm not too worried about it. A lot of fitness experts and trainers advise their clients to cycle their calorie consumption - to not eat the same predictable amount of calories every day in order to keep the body (metabolism) guessing. So they'll have their clients eat a few very low calorie days followed by a very high calorie day. Supposedly this helps get your body absolutely ripped - provided you are also putting in the gym time. I guess I see my idea as something akin to that. And besides, I am NOT eating low calorie, and I am eating plenty of fat and protein. Not once have I felt deprived, because my meals are satisfying.

As far as the guy who lost 50 lbs fasting every other day, I agree, it's not exactly mind-blowing for someone to lose 50 pounds in 40 weeks. I merely included that link to show people who might be interested that other people do fast, and do lose weight. Which actually goes back to the metabolism question, doesn't it? He fasted for something like 36 out of every 48 hours. He lost weight in spurts, and then would have stall periods (like most weight loss), but he did reach his goal. Do you think his metabolism changed during that time? I looked at his food diary and he ate pretty poorly a lot of the time, yet still managed to do what so many people never achieve, simply by abstaining from calories every other day.

I don't know what this will do for me, but since it has worked so far, I plan to continue. In order for me to succeed, I need a plan I can stick to and that doesn't bore me, and so far this is it. After doing loads of research on the topics of health and weight loss, I have come to the conclusion that low carb eating in combination with intermittent fasting seems like a viable option for me. One thing I have figured out after failing at induction so many times is that I know I'm on the right track with low-carb eating. I just need to tweak the plan a little and I know I can be successful. I WILL do induction again, and I will work the Atkins plan the way it's supposed to be done, just on fewer meals.
