  • Diflucan and yeast overgrowth

I posted this in the Candida forum very early this morning but got no answer so I thought I would post it here.

Ok so I go to the Doctor this morning to get bloodwork and annual physical and I tell him my concern about yeast overgrowth. So anyway he asks what makes me thing I have a yeast overgrowth so I told him my symptoms. He said how can you be sure you don't have allergies... WELL DUH dude i was tested for that 3 years ago. Then he asks about antibiotics I told him 7 different ones I have been on multiple time over the last year. Told him about the spit test and he looked at me like i was 14 karat crazy. He had NO idea what I was talking about. I have 2 more refills on it as well.

He prescribed Diflucan but I was wondering if anyone else had that prescribed and had it worked for the overall yeast overgrowth??????

Diflucan works great for yeast, but also keep taking probiotics as well.

my doctor was reluctant to prescribe the diflucan, he won't give me a probiotic. Would a probiotic be like acidopholis or whatever those little thinggys are?

          Re: Diflucan and yeast overgrowth

Go to a health food store and talk with someone there... There's many different kinds. It's also covered in the book. Diflucan is prescibed for yeast and it's just one pill that lasts for days in your body killing the yeast... but if don't have an 'acute' infection that the doctor can see for himself he won't prescribe it. The probiotics are something you can buy at a health food store or trader joes. Acidophilus is one of the things that are naturally in our GI system and keep us healthy.... there are others. Actually look it up in DANDR, there is a whole chapter devoted to yeast.

You would probably have gotten a better response in the Candida forum if you had started a new thread with your post, rather than putting it in someone else's.
              Just a tip.

                Re: Diflucan and yeast overgrowth

I think the natural way of getting rid of yeast is better. I have used Caprylic acid and also Yeast Fighter by Twinlab. When I started the diet I was really strict and didnt even lose an ounce! But I had a slight vaginal yeast infection so I bought Yeast Fighters and took it. After about 2 days I dropped 14 lbs. Unbelieviable I know but true. Diflucan is OK but it kills everything not just the overgrowth. So if it were me in the situation again I would go all natural. I am a nurse and dont really support antibiotics and things of that sort so that may tell you something. Good luck!
