  • Digital scale Vs. Dial scale

I have both. I like the number on the dial scale better..lol but I dont know what one to believe. On the digital scale I can weigh and get a number but then get on only 20 seconds later and get a different number . I dont know what one to throw out. What have you guys found to be best?

I like digital. On a dial scale you have to ensure it is calibrated. I've tried four different digital scales and found one that is always consistent. And it was the cheapest of the four!

I have a digital scale and I always go by the first weight. If I step on it again, it's always different.

digital for me. mine doesn't do the .2 or .6 increments either. i think those things drive people nuts. i can also get different reading within a pound if i step on it time after time.
like sheepie said, take the first reading.

I have a digital scale that doesn't change when you get on in a few times in a row. I get on it in the morning and it says 268.2, i can get on it five more times, move it around, whatever, and it will still says 268.2. so i can trust it!

i got it at cvs for about 20 bucks. it actually was a CVS brand scale.

I like my dial scale because as long as I make sure the dial is in the right place when I start then I know I can trust it and I found the same thing about the digital (that I kept getting different numbers). I'm compulsive about making sure the dial starts at zero, don't want to have a wrong number either way!

I have a digital and take it as "truth" when I get the same reading three times. Downside is that sometimes, to get 3 same readings I have to step on and off the darn thing about ten times!!! Makes me feel a clot!

I have a digital scale and i get the same problem, so what i do is step on it 3 times and then just take the average.

I have a digital scale and it's pretty good at giving the same reading all the time. Like Jimmies it only does full pounds - I think the fractions would drive me nuts!

I like that it takes a second or two to settle on a weight - flashing 200->201->202 or sometimes 204->203->202. If it approaches the final weight from below I feel I've really secured that extra pound off, if it approaches it from above, I realise I have to consolidate that pound before expecting another. Don't know if that's actually the case though or it's just a chance thing.

I had a digital one that just couldnt be trusted, it did indeed show different weights everytime i stepped on it.
Now i have my trusty, cheap digital scale that always shows the same weight no matter how often i step on it.
i'd get rid of a scale that cant make up its mind.
u never know whats the real weight then.

Digital scales are notoriously wonky. But here's a tip, always stand in the same spot and in the same position. Mark where you place your feet with pieces of tape, and stand up straight. It helps if you have the kind that beeps when it has the answer, so you dont have to wobble to keep looking down.

Re: Digital scale Vs. Dial scale

I just took my very first digital scale back to the store. The weight differences were so extreme that there was no way I could trust it. If it were just a pound or two I could have taken an average, but I weighed 8 pounds less in the kitchen than I did in the bathroom, and that's just waaaaay too big of a difference to trust it. So I took it back and got a trusty dial scale that gives me the same weight no matter what room I'm in. I think that's the kind of scale I'm going to stick with from now on.
The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast:
the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'.

Thank you all for your responses. I think that I am just going to toss the digital and get a new one. But I will do what Bette said about marking your feet and standing up straight. The digital one that I have now was around $50.00 so It makes me a lil mad but I would rather know what I truly weigh. CVS here I come! Thanks all!

I had a HealthO'Meter digital scale that was inconsistent. I bought a Taylor scale and no matter how many times I weigh (or wait to weigh) it stays consistent down to the tenths. I prefer the digital because then I can't trick myself into believing it says a certain (smaller) weight when it's not.

                              I have a Digital.

Mine is the opposite though...when I 1st step on it, the number that appears is NOT the number I use!
When I go to step on it the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th time it gives me all the exact reading and it's about 5 lbs. LESS than the 1st reading!

How I found out which Number was RIGHT was I went to visit my Doctor and went by their Scale (because their Scale is always accurate whether we like it or not) and it was the same that I weighed on my 2nd try!
