    Re: For some odd reason....

I get like that too...I get sooo hungry at night and just wanna eat, eat, eat!

It may be because we eat dinner quite early. Usually around 6 p.m., sometimes around 5 p.m.

Anyways, when I start getting hungry at night and start thinking about all the food I wanna eat...I just go to bed so I don't have to think about it!

This may not be the correct way of going about it, but it's what helps me.

Also...to keep motivated, what works for me is this...

Find something, a reason, something to look forward to, ANYTHING of WHY you want/need to loose this weight!

For me, it was the fact that we're going to start TTC again this Summer and I MUST loose weight for that reason!

For others it may be...maybe you have an Event coming up that you wanna loose weight for...

Also, they have "Event" Tickers out there (TickerFactory.com) and you can't track your weight loss...or the amount of time left until your Event.

I find that this motivates me too whenever I look down at my Ticker!

Oh, and it's always fun updating the Ticker when you loose some weight! Ha Ha

Tickers and exercise challenges are great motivational tools. Try to pledge something in the exercise challenge of this forum, even if it is small, doesn't matter. The idea is to commit.

Also, take a look at this clip.. can be a good motivation..

If you are hungry eat! This is what I love about this WOL. Just make sure its legal foods. You will want something thats high in both fat and proteins so that you wont feel hungry anymore. I love pepperoni with some cheese - it's a great snack! or if its something sweet you are craving make yourself a mock danish - they are delish!

Also make sure you are drinking enough water! A lot of times we confuse thirst with being hungry.

Stick with it! You can do this! We are here to help. One of the things I've found that has helped me before is just coming here and reading everyone's posts. It motivates me to keep going strong. The support here is just wonderful

i just tell myself that it is NOT going to kill me if i DONT eat that candy bar and when I wake up the next morning I give myself a pat. I know how you feel Ive done this off and on for a few years now and this is the first time Ive been cheat free since day 1! I remind myself why Im doing this..and theres more reason to stay on this WOL then not. If I can do this I swear anyone can

            Re: For some odd reason....

It is kind of a sneaky way to stay motivated but I am giving myself money at the end of each month that I am totally cheat free! I told myself at the beginning that if I cheat AT ALL that month then it doesn't matter how good I was every other day, I don't get the money! I'm putting the money from the end of each month into a savings account that I get to spend on new clothes when I reach my goal. It's just something that helps me!

The other thing I find helpful is just thinking about why I started this and why I need it and then trying to justify to myself why I should cheat. I haven't been able to justify a cheat yet!

If all else fails, get rid of the bad foods from the house and put some legal foods in their place! Plan ahead if you know you are going to be tempted at 10pm then have a legal snack ready for that time. You can do it!! Don't give up!!

                  Re: For some odd reason....

I agree with the others, lots of good advise! And if you're hungry then eat!

Sometimes when you're not even hungry and you feel that urge to eat coming on, well obviously the answer is to NOT eat but that doesn't always work. lol

For the first few months for me it was hard to always resist so I just changed what I was eating.
Stick to the foods lists, if you have to eat then do it. It'll get easier. If you're craving something illegal and it won't go away make a low-carb version of it if you can keep it induction friendly or friendly to whatever rung you are on.
If you can resist, of course do... but we all have our moments where you have to have something! LOL.

                  Good luck!

It's hard and especially when you first start! How is it going for you today?

I tell myself, you've had that before, you know what it tastes like, you don't need it! LOL I usually grab for water and also for a protein/fat snack of some type... it's true for me, it's self-limiting! I've recently putting (it's ongoing) a list of why I want this...

Hope today is going better, post soon!!

I agree with what everyone says.

My biggest thing is when we are watching TV - I just want something sweet to eat! My big thing right now is a "root beer float" - just a lil bit of heavy cream and rootbeer. Seems to fix it

But if you get hungry - definitely eat something. You'll notice as the days tick by that you won't get that feeling very often - it will just vanish and then all of a sudden it will hit you that you haven't had those cravings anymore!!

                      You can do it!!!

                        Re: For some odd reason....

I do the exact same thing at night. This may sound silly, but I rubber banded my bedroom door closed. Of course it wouldn't stop me, but I look at it and rolling through my mind is, "Aw, jeez, I rubber-banded my door to remind me that I have a psychological issue with chocolate covered cherries (or whatever the obsession is at the moment). I totally have a problem." It isn't physical, I'm not really hungry. For me it's craving and it isn't protein or all the Atkins friendly stuff I'm craving, it's popcorn, milkduds, B&J's half baked ice cream, cookie dough, i.e., carbs. For some reason, that rubber band reminds me that I'm really silly, that I shouldn't use food as recreation, but as sustenance. I should use recreation as recreation and put my mind elsewhere. I'm really into reading. I highly recommend Janet Evanovich's series starting with One for the Money. Her heroine is hysterically funny and once you pick up the book (I think there are 13 of them now), you can't think of anything else.

It's tough to be focused sometimes. Please make sure you are doing this for YOU and no one else. When I did Atkins a few years ago, I lost 30 pounds - wham - it was easy and quick, but I did it for the wrong reasons - other people. This time around, it is all about me. In fact, 2008 is all about me. Don't get me wrong, the family is still #1 but I am no longer 2nd. I don't want to have a weight issue when I'm older - I'm 42 now. This is MY time to reclaim the person inside. It is quite empowering to know that you control everything. I don't care what people say or how they feel about Atkins. That would be their problem. Getting threw the first few days is the hardest. You can do, but just do it for you! Tell yourself that it will get easier because it will. Don't listen to anyone who doesn't support you. You deserve this for you! Hang in there and don't give up.

No slipping here! I even went out to dinner at a fancy restaurant on Friday night. No cheating. I had asparagus as an appetizer, sea bass with crusted bacon and shaved brussel sprouts with goat cheese. My dessert was green tea. It was lovely! And best of all, I lost .5 pounds when I weighed on Saturday morning. As of today, January 28th, I am down 10 lbs. (since January 7th). Absolutely no cheating. It's been easy for me so far. I am pretty religious about writing in my journal so I can keep myself in check. I had reached my goal already for January (5 lbs.) and started on February's goal (10 lbs.) so I'm ahead of the game right now by 5 lbs. When I reach February's goal, I'll start on March's goal. I want to lose 30 lbs. by Easter. It's a stretch but I think I can do it. If not, I'll be "almost there" anyway. The next goal is Memorial Day and that's when I plan to go into maintenance. I have a family trip planned for California in late June so I want to reach my final weight goal before I go. I know I can do it.

                              Have a great day!
