Re: Help!!!! Does one cheat stop all your progress?

I cheated today... eeek I had a piece of sisters birthday cake...like I posted on another board, I broke down, I was tired of the major appetite loss, I was getting sick to my stomach with the protein and veggie dinners and I had a moment of weakness.. I feel better now.. well not really, but I will get back on track tomorrow.

If you didn't have dinner yet, you should get back on track with your next meal. Waiting until tomorrow will only give you an excuse to hurt your body with even more sugar.

When did you start Atkins? Are you still in your first two weeks or are you in extended Induction? Or OWL? If you are doing extended Induction, food boredom is a signal that it's time for you to move to OWL. If you are still in your first two weeks, then look for recipes that will make your menus more interesting.

Right now you may be out of ketosis and you'll probably get some cravings. Make sure you have legal foods around you to avoid making further steps towards Carbland.

      Now the planning part...

When you go to parties, eat something before, so that hunger doesn't attack when cake is the only food around. While at the party, eat "legal" appetizers if available (olives, cheese, meat, veggies w/ dip) and drink a lot of water to feel you up. My advice would be to avoid diet sodas as they will only fuel your desire for something sweet.

Take this as a learning experience and design a plan to do better next time you are in a similar situation. A good starting point is Chapter 19 in DANDR.

No need to start over. Just continue from where you left it, finish your Induction and then move on to OWL.

You don't have to eat eggs. You can have vegetables (cooked or raw), soup, casseroles, tuna/chiken salad, 1/2 avocado, some olives to snack on, fish... Make the most out of the foods allowed during Induction.

Don't try to even things out by not eating today. Think of something you'd like to have and prepare yourself a meal you can enjoy. Did you check the "Atkins Food and Recipes" forum on the Board? There are many delicious recipes there.

Makes me feel better, what discourages me is where people are posting on other boards that one cheat causes you to gain 3-5 lbs back. That made me feel horrible. I have gone from 250-165-150 pretty fast and now that I am back on track, a few pounds makes me upset. Over one small piece of cake :wacks head: I will check out the recipe board to see what I can make to please my appetite, I was eating a hamburger patty, maybe eggs, a piece of pork with veggies and ohh that got old real fast, my stomach got to were it said oh no not that again and I was constantly nausias<spelling?

You see, this depends on one's carbohydrate "limits" and on what the cheat consisted of. For example, I know my CCLL is above 40. This means that, unless I have a food intolerance to, let's say, wheat, I should be able to eat a sandwich (20-25 net carbs for two slices of bread) and still lose weight, because I'd be below my CCLL. So it really depends on how many carbs your cheat had, on the food intolerances you have and on your CCLL and CCLM.

For many people, one cheat evolves into a full-blown binge and before they know it they had stuffed tens or hundreds of grams of sugar down their throats. What you have to do when you mess up is immediately get back on track. Staying away from the scale for a few days will also help, as you will avoid the disappointment a few extra pounds (most of them water) may cause.

Here is another link for recipes. It has pictures too.

I looked it up, and 35 grams of carbs LOL oh boy.... it was just a small piece of choco cake with frosting, so hoping and praying it doesn't do anything to me but throw me out of ketosis... n hands and knees prayyyinggg: But I will eat a small salad tonight with a little tuna just so my body can get back into ketosis a bit faster...ugh :smacks the cake:

That's a great choice! When you plan your menus, make sure you have enough fat there. During Induction, 65% of the total calories should be from fat. The ease of getting into ketosis depends on the fat to carbohydrate ratio of your menus. Besides, excessive protein is converted into sugar, which is definitely something you don't want to happen. High fat, moderate protein, low carb -- that's the way to go.

Good luck getting back on track without too many bruises.
