  • Day 10, Zero Pounds Lost, want to cry...

What is going on???? My weight hasn't dropped at all. I feel really strange...gittery inside, very bloated and puffy. I drank 5 L of water yesterday and was still thirsty.

I'm on a 30 day course of antibiotics and it is TOM. I'm trying to tell myself that these are contributing factors. I'm hoping that I will just drop at some point but I'm feeling really discouraged....

My weight gain is like living a nightmare...I don't know why it happened and I can't figure out why I can't loose. I was always thin until I suddenly gained a chunk of weight. It's gone on like that...weird 10 to 15 pound gaines very quickly. I've been to 8 nutritionists in the past 7 years and followed diets perfectly and didn't loose anything...just kept gaining. I'm currently seeing an endocrinologist, a gastro and an allergist and my internist is coordinating all of this. Nothing major has been found. In December my interest sent me to get my body fat tested. I was told I was obease. The tech was obnoxious to me. Everyone is obnoxious. They all speak to me as if I am lazy and stupid. I am soooo hoping that Atkins is the answer. If it doesn't work I don't know what I will do.

Thank you for letting me vent. I know everyone here has a story and a struggle.

I'm willing to bet that your medication is screwing with your system. Don't give up, and check your progress after you are off the meds. I take an anti-depressant that slows my metabolism down to a snail crawl, so I can totally relate to your struggle. I did low-calorie for almost a year, kept my calories under 1500, exercised for two and a half hours a day, and only lost 8 pounds in almost a year. I tried to talk to my doctor about this problem, but she just acted like I was really sitting around all day eating bon-bons and watching soap operas. It can be so frustrating when you do all that work, and the results never come.

Just to be on the safe side, post your menu in the review menu section, just to make sure your diet doesn't need a bit of tweeking. And hang in there! It may be slow going, but it will happen eventually. You are worth it!

During TOM I always retained water--to the tune of 3-5 pounds. So I never weighed or measured during that time.

Antibiotics cause me to retain water too---and to bloat. So again, whenever I was on antibiotics during my weight loss, I never weighed or measured.

i just finished my 14 day induction on monday and was very upset to see that i had only lost 6 lbs - upset because i had weighed myself after a week and had the 6 lbs then, so was expecting more. however, my TOM also started yesterday and i tend to have a lot of bloat/water weight during this time. if you are like most women, then i am sure you are dealing with this too! also, if you are eating a lot of salty foods, sometimes that makes the water weight gain worse around TOM, so keep that in mind too.

i decided to just keep doing what i'm doing, and then when my TOM is over in a few days, i'll weigh myself again and hopefully, see a few pounds lost.

stick to it, keep drinking the water, and when TOM is over, weigh yourself again. i bet you will see some loss at that point.

I know it's discouraging when you get on that scale and the numbers don't read the way you want them to! Do you use fitday.com? That can really help to see if you are eating right amount of fat/protein/carbs (60/35/5). If that shows that you are, you'll know it's the meds and TOM. Just hold on a little longer and you'll start to see results. I loose slowly compared to some people, so I'm trying to stop comparing. I've been going to the gym since October, 3 days a week for an hour and I was doing weight watchers for a month and only lost 3 pounds total. I see much better results from Atkins so far. You will too. But I have to remember there are no quick fixes in life.

I agree with all these girls too. Hang in there. Definitely have your menu checked out, there could be things in there that are causing trouble too. Also, do as much reading here as you can. Also, fat is light and fluffy compared to the other things that make up your body so measuring can help keep you more encouraged sometimes than the scale.

Stick with it, get past this TOM and antibiotics and you will not regret it.

Think of it this way...If you don't stick with it, how will you ever know? And besides, if you don't stick with it, what are you going to do anyway? Stick with us.

Also, look at this. It might give you encouragement. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1378

I agree with Porcelain... stick with us. After TOM and your antibiotics you can take stock again.
Post a menu in the Review my Menu forum. It'll give you an idea of what, if anything, you need to tweak to give this way of eating (and yourself) the best chance. We'll get to the bottom of this by a process of elimination!

If you are hypothyroid, it is extremely difficult to loose weight.

First check your temperature first thing in the morning. It should be 98.6 +OR - 1 Deg. If it much lower, Go to an endocrynologist and have your Thyroid checked. Find out what your TSH score is. Ideal is going to be less than 1.

Mine was 2.8 which is in the labs "ok" range (.5-5.0). It turns out the original doctor I went to was not keeping up with the latest research on the thyroid, nor was the lab (new score .5-3.0). I went to a specialist who called my first doctor an idiot, because in her office my body temp was 93 and I was near the top of the new TSH range when he first tested me over a year prior. She ordered new test & TSH was a 3.8 It w It has taken me 2 years to get my TSH score right. Night and day as far as how I feel & loosing weight.

Read up on the thyroid & the TSH score before you see your doctor & understand what the test results mean. There is a tone of material on the web. Endocrynologist sites are your best bet for acurate info. Good luck & keep the faith

Please don't give up! I remember when I first started Atkins I think it was 5-6 years ago right before it became really popular, I was waiting tables, and I had a guest who was telling me about his experience with it. He said, "It's really strange, the atkins diet, I was on it for a few weeks, doing everythign right with no weight loss and then I woke up one day and I'd lost "insert number" (I can't remember exactly how much but it was like 20-30 lbs...factor in that he was a man, and they lose weight faster). Most other diets you lose 1.5-2lbs a week. Slow and steady through major restriction and exercise. Atkins is simply not like this. Also please read "Why the scale lies" http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ght=scale+lies

Also I wanted to share that I was on 2-3 different types of meds when I did this 5 years back and still lost 40lbs over six months. Your TOM is definitely playing a factor here. I know that it's a nightmare and I think we all feel the same way! Hope this helps!

                            Hi there,

You've already had excellent advice here. I just wanted to come by and give you a cause I know how frustrating it can be when the scale doesn't budge. Remember, this is a lifestyle, not a diet. The Atkins lifestyle will get you as healthy as you've ever been. Hang in there albs75, you'll find out what the culprit is and the scale will start moving in the right direction again.

I second the motion that the advice in this thread is about as good as your going to get. I agree that it may be the medications. I know I was taking a vitamin brand and it clearly read (not for diabetics) on the label and that was my stall, I never knew that vitamins would stall me.

I agree on looking at your menu. Read read read those labels on any product you buy. They are so sneaky!!! I used lots of diet soda in the past and both the caffine and the sodium made me stall. I do not drink it now and losing much faster.

I have only one other idea I am not sure that someone mentioned it. I noticed that when a friend of mine here was sicks she was wondering about nyquil. I looked at my bottle I have in the house! nightmare words "HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP" so if you have been sick and are using this product or any with that in it... that may be a big stall....

ok hun hope you stay despite the ten day stall. lots of people will help you figure it out. trust me it is worth it, hop over to the before and after photos to stay with it! you can do it!
