There could be a lot of factors for this. Are you drinking enough water? How much fat are you eating? Try posting a couple menus. I know it can be discouraging but we are here for you

Def. not TOM....just finished that. Maybe I am eating too many calories? Today I had.....

Breakfast 3 eggs in 1 tbsp. butter
        3 slices bacon

Lunch: 1 can tuna mixed with 2 tsp. mayo
        2 cups lettuce

        Snack: 2 mozzarella sticks

Dinner: 2 pork chops made the parmesan chicken way
        1 cup asparagus

anything I should be concerned about? Plus.....I am very lightheaded lately......and I feel hypoglycemic. I think I am going to go and eat a small orange.

I also checked the keto sticks and I am in ketosis. Can u help?????

          Stay away from the orange!

If you're on induction, stay away from fruit - it's not allowed right now.

The lightheaded funk you're feeling is normal - "Induction flu" It lasts just a couple of days and when it's gone, you'll have more energy and feel really good.

Drink a ton of water! When you think you can't possibly drink anymore - Grab a glass and chug

I would try and incorporate more veggies and cut back on the protein a bit - have just one pork chop instead of two?

          Are you on any meds?

I know it's super frustrating - keep on keeping on - you can totally do this!

OH, I almost forgot - you have great hair

Thank you for the hair compliment I am not on any meds, so maybe like you said...too much protein. Today I had 3 eggs for bfast with 2 links of small bkfst sausage. For lunch I am going to try some more tuna. It'll be a meal on the run.....then for dinner maybe some salmon. I will try to drink more water...it is hard but I am trying and the lightheadedness is driving me nutty! I had the small orange last night and the feeling went away. I will do my best to deal with it but it is hard bec. I get scarewd when it happens. Thanks for everything!

              Re: Gaining weight..HELP

I'm not seeing much fat in your menu, with the exception of your breakfast. Add fat.
You're getting in your 3 cups, but there's not much substance to it. Mix those veggies up. Lettuce/jicama/tomato/onion salads w/ cheese and dressing. A salad doesn't have to mean just lettuce!

You'll feel better if you spread your veggies out over the course of the day so you're getting your carbs spread out over the day. Doing that and adding some fat to what you're eating is gonna help you feel better. Make sure you're drinking all your water.

Question: What are you doing for exercise?

Don't be afraid of veggies!! I think that is going to be my new motto. Eat enough fat, don't fear the veggies.

                  Re: Gaining weight..HELP

How many pounds did you lose and then gain back? If you JUST finished TOM that could be a reason. Our bodies get crazy during that time of the month. I know some of the girls here have mentioned they gained about 5 pounds and if I'm not mistaken some have said even more.
It could be too much protein as other said, or maybe not enough water.
Just give it time. Some days we retain more water than others.
That's another thing, how much salt do you put in your food? Do you eat bacon? It can definitely make you retain water. Have you made sure those sausages you're eating are sugar free...as in no sugar or high fructose corn syrup listed on the ingredients?
Anyway, just give it time. Play around with your menu and hopefully it'll be gone by your next weigh in.

Your salt intake can make you retain water. Cheese can be a problem food for some people too.

                      • Log into Fitday and see how many carbs/fat/protein you're ingesting.
                      • Log onto Caloriesperhour to see what your BMI is (to see if you're eating enough calories).
                      • Log onto Caloriesperhour to see how many calories you should be eating based on your activity level.
For me, if I don't eat enough, I gain. Hope this helps!!

                        Re: Gaining weight..HELP

How long had it been since you ate when you started feeling light headed? You seem to be familiar with the symptoms of hypoglycemia, so maybe this is not new? Maybe you need to eat more often. Dr. A states in the first rule of induction to not go more than 6 waking hours without eating. Think carefully about how you ate before starting Atkins. Did you often have "something to tide you over"? When? This may give you a clue about how often you need to eat. If it is five or six times (or more) a day, you can adjust. For instance, instead of having 3 eggs for breakfast, have 2 and hard boil one to eat later. Pack some celery sticks to have in place of 1 cup of lettuce. Good luck and let us know how it's going.

When you gained the weight back did you gain the inches back? I just had a frustrating week of weight gain even though I knew I was doing everything right but when I measured I was still losing inches! Maybe it is the same for you? Also, under the FAQ section read the Why the scales sometimes lie post, it is so good!

Are you taking your vitamin supplements? Maybe that is part of the reason you are feeling lightheaded, and if an orange helped it then maybe you are not getting enough vitamin C?

as a student nurse I am aware of hypoglycemic symptoms...seems like I have them. I will try eating more frequently like you suggested and perhaps that will help. I know I was not getting enough veggies and that I will fix today. Also, I was very constipated...LOL...maybe that is where the weight came into play.....or is it just wishful thinking? Despite the weight gain I have kept the inches off and even though last night I ate an orange, I was still in ketosis all through today...in fact, the stick showed a dark purple....go figure

The reason oranges are not allowed (ever) is because they have a very high glycemic number and cause an insulin spike. If you were having a hypoglycemic episode, you probably needed it, and if your carb intake was sufficiently low, it would not affect ketosis. One of the purposes of the Atkins WOE is to stabilize blood sugar and insulin release throughout the day.
