  • Finished induction: losing weight (19.5 lbs on induction) but really tired.

    Hi Folks,

Just reporting in...finished induction last wednesday, and weighed in down 19.5 lbs, 1.5 inches off my waist, chest was the same and hips were down 1.75 inches.

I'm now on rung one and my big change has been instead of eggs for breakfast i now eat this flax hot cereal (called 'Red Square Power Flax'): it has 31 grams of carbs but 24 grams of fibre. with one teaspoon of splenda and one tablespoon of whipping cream, it gives me 9 grams of carbs for breakfast - lunch and dinner i eat the same as i did in induction, so it works out to between 20-25 grams a day.

One thing i wanted to ask, though....i'm losing weight, which is great, but i'm really tired. I do five high intensity workouts per week and with my current eating i feel like either: i'm not eating enough calories or i'm not eating enough carbs. Has anyone else experienced this?

That's not "Rung 1". Rung 1 is 5 net carbs of any Induction veggie added to how you were eating during Induction. Flax is a seed. Therefore it belongs on the Nuts/Seed Rung (Rung 3). Furthermore, you added 7 net carb grams of it to your diet. Those 2 extra grams might seem insignificant, but if you have a food sensitivity if may be very significant.

If you look at the "Blood Sugar Symptom Test" in Chapter 12 of the book, you'll see that "tired all the time" is a symptom of blood sugar instability. If that symptom coincided with the addition of that flax cereal, it's quite possible that the flax is causing insulin surges. Drop the cereal and add the 5 net carbs of Induction veggies to your menu instead.

      Great job on induction!

Check out the recipes section for Breakfast ideas that don't involve eggs (and some with eggs that aren't so "egg-y". I like the Mock Danish, it has eggs, but is a nice change.

As for as needing carbs for exercise, that's a big myth. I'm currently training for my 6th marathon and don't carb up whatsoever.

I experienced the same feelings as I finished my induction way back when. If anything, you're losing a bit too quickly and your body is having a hard time keeping up. Moving up to the veggie rung in OWL will help naturally slow that up a bit. Although, it will slow down sooner or later even if you stay on induction.

Megs is rite, you have been doing great, but you need to only add 5g of Net carbs from Veggies, not the cereal.

In regards to energy, you probably need to just eat a little more through out the day. I do several high intensity workouts a week, with plenty of energy, even more than when I gorged myself with carbs.

Keep up the good work, but be careful.

Congratulations on those pounds and inches lost
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
