  • Carb Counters Book and Site Different??

To add even more confusion, I went the Atkins site and printed off the carb counter. What i found comparing just one food (Red sweet peppers is this)

Book says : 1/2 cup of Red Sweet Peppers is 3.4 net carbs
Site Counter says: 1/2 cup of Red Sweet Peppers is 2.3 carbs

Which should I follow and which is right? The Atkins site Carb counter or the Carb counter in the back of the Atkins book?

I would check with the USDA database and use their numbers
    http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

btw 1/2 cup of chopped sweet red peppers is listed there as weighing 74.5 grams & having 4.49 total carbs including 1.6 fiber = 2.89 net carbs!!
1/2 cup of sliced sweet red peppers weighs 46 grams and has 2.77 - 1.0 = 1.77 net carbs
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference lists 1/2 C chopped red pepper as 4.34 carbs and 1/2 C sliced red pepper as 1.77 carbs (if you subtract the fiber as you do to figure net carbs). My advice would be to use Fit Day, which uses this database, to get your carb counts. Fit Day is a free online food logging program. You can search this site for more information.

Your math is better than mine, Elizellen. 3.34 is the correct amount for chopped red peppers.

I've been using fitday for the last few days, its good to know that is where these numbers are being compiled from. I'll follow fit day for my numbers then and ignore the carb counter in the back of the book. Wow, this such a science LOL
