Re: Low blood sugar?
Just remember one thing regarding the OJ.....everyone's life differs. In that I mean there are times where an individual may not be able to eat every few hrs. and a lapse in several hours goes by along with a drop in blood sugar. Ironically this happened to me today. I was doing a clinical rotation in the hospital on the labor and delivery unit. I had eaten at 6 a.m. and had NO time to eat until about 8 hours later. This was because I was scrubbed up in the OR while a C-Section was going on. I had to follow the patient pre operatively, through surgery, then post op. Regardless, my sugar level was so low I got the shakes, and felt really sick. I grabbed some m and m's from a collegue bec. it was the only thing I could get my hands on at the moment without abandoning my patient. I am not allowed to bring in any kind of food into the OR so I had no choice really.....with all that being said.....if necessary to combat an episode of hypoglycemia, some OJ or a piece of candy will not necessarily throw your body out of ketosis if you are on induction, because the daily carb. count is 20 which is very low. When I spoke previously about the OJ I was trying to say that if it is a NECESSITY do not be afraid to help your body......a few hours of not showing ketosis on a stick is far better than becomming very ill. Thanks for letting me get on my "soapbox."
