  • Oh what a night...

So I work graveyards and my lunch is at 4 am. Last night I forgot my lunch at home and decided I would just go to BK and get some food there but they were closed for remodeling. So my next stop I went to Jack in the Box and I ordered a salad, get to the window to hand the lady my card and says that she cant take it cause her computer is down. I say thats not my problem and she says she cant give me the food. This would have been nice if she said something before I ordered.

    Fine whatever.

I go to McDonalds and try to order a salad there but they only have breakfast. Their breakfast options suck for induction but by this time I was starving. So i ordered 2 sausage & egg biscuits. Eat the sausage and the blandest egg ever. I know I need some veggies so I decided to try Taco Bell to eat the insides of some soft tacos. Well there was a giant truck blocking them and now I only have 5 mins to book it back to work. I was so hungry the rest of the night! Had to wait until 7 am for the store to open (I work at fred meyer) until I was finally able to get something good to eat!

I did have some change in my pocket and I was tempted to get some peanuts from the vending machine even though its not allowed for me yet. So now I have a question is it better to cheat a little or not eat at all?

Whats even worse is that around 5 am this awesome lady from the bakery sets out coffee cakes and other awful goodies for everyone to eat. So hearing her announcement was the biggest temptation ever. I was good and didn't eat it but ugh.. it was a little traumatizing lol

Wow, that is a tough situation. Good for you for not caving in and staying the course. My opinion because I'm new at this is that if you were ready to crash, blood sugar-wise, of course grab something to keep you from passing out but you made it through.

Another option I've found because my schedule is wacky too is small salads and boiled eggs at gas stations and a lot of those are open 24 hour, at least here in Cali. That seriously was some sort of cosmic test for you though. I admire your strength. Maybe carry some emergency red pepper sticks in your pocket for next time.

They say that you need to eat every 6 hours or so - so in an emergancy if you have to cheat I would go with the nuts over those coffee cakes and evil donuts ~ sometimes don't you wished you had a 15 minute cold bug so your nose is too stuffy to smell the aroma

Man that's a rough one. I probably would've caved & been angry with myself after. Kudos for making the best of a bad situation!

A couple of times I have had to eat peanuts at airports when I didn't have time to find other food. Even though I am not at OWL 3 it is a lot better than grabbing something high carb like a muffin. You did good!

A round of applause to you for sticking with the plan! That was a tough situation.
You'd do well to always have a snack handy for emergencies such as these. Being prepared has saved many an Atkineer from taking a tumble from the wagon.

It is best to plan rather than depend on the inconsistencies you experienced in dealing witht he fast food world!

Toss a couple of hard boiled eggs in your purse or a couple of small pieces of cheese and some celery. Problem with going off plan for peanuts is that it tends to become a habit rather than a one time solution.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

That's difficult. If you have blood-sugar problems then probably eating a few nuts would have been better than not eating at all. However, because you were able to eat the egg and sausage there was no need to cheat. That should have held you over till 7am.
                  Anyway, you did wonderfully

Fry up some bacon, put it in a ziploc bag and keep it on you! Bacon is just delicious anyway so when you're going on your 6th hour or so and feeling CrAnKy and hungry it's a really great treat. Nice and fatty too so it'll cut your hunger immediatly. Also don't forget that you can microwave bacon. It's a really quick snack to prepare that way! Just wrap it in a paper towel first and microwave for about a min (watch over it so it doesn't burn---that's an awful smell). Forget about those fast food places, I really think they may be evil! I'm super duper impressed that you went to those places and didn't cave! I don't think I could do it. I wish I could come over and cook you up some emergency snacks! That was my xmas present for my sister. She works ALOT and really wants to lose weight so I went over and made her a ton of food. Good luck and seriously, very impressed with your will power!

Lol I would totally let you come over to make me some snacks! I hate cooking I really really do. I'm fortunate to have a roommate right now who loves to cook and is very supportive of my atkins WOE. I just hate that I forgot my lunch. It was some very fatty pieces of pork w/ a broccoli stir fry. So good!

Thanks everyone! I was rather proud of myself and angry at the same time. I really do need to get in the habit of just having some emergency snack on me or leaving something at work. With any luck that was the last time this would happen
