It's not Atkins.. it's the "Flat Belly Diet!"

I heard about this on the radio this morning. Basically, they described Atkins and toted it as a brand new discovery. I wanted to kick my radio.

      Re: Flat Belly Diet

I was kind of annoyed when I saw the "idiot-proof diet" one, which was all over the place for a while. I think we are going to see a LOT more of this kind of thing, basically because it works!

Now I am less unhappy about it. Given that Atkins (the company) are going off on a tangent and becoming primarily low-carb product pushers and that the last reliable book is the 2002 version, which will eventually go out of print and become very scarce, it's inevitable that there will be a market for "new" books. I'd rather they followed the Atkins route than any other - and they will probably reach people who are terrified by Atkins because of all the negative things they've read.

In the end I hope that as many people as possible find a way of eating that makes them feel good and works for them. If these books do that for some people, then that can only be good.

Ah, yes, the flat-belly diet. I chuckled a little. I agree with Kate58 though that going to the Atkins site or reading any other Atkins book only confused me. Thank goodness for this Board and it's KISS approach to Atkins.

The radio might have described Atkins, but the diet is not even close. The clip shows eating a frozen waffle with fruit, etc. Most meals have whole grain. You have to eat 4 meals a day, with 400 calories per meal, total 1600 calories per day. You have specific amounts of certain foods at each meal. You are supposed to eat 'lite' dressings and add olive oil.

This is the MUFA's that everyone is talking about. I have been trying to add in these foods to my regular Atkins diet and it is working well. Some of the things I have tried, like black olive tapenade, is really very good. I would have never tried it if not reading about it. I love black olives, but have only ever eaten them just plain or sliced up in a salad. I don't like avocado at all, but I have found ways to eat them that I can tolerate. Before this month I had bought two in my whole life and now I have bought five and consumed two.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

              HI,
I read this article in February Prevention. It's an excellent article referring to MUFAS (monounsaturated fats). What is so wonderful about the foods that are MUFAS, is that they're mostly Atkins friendly. Healthy oils, nuts & seeds, olives, avacados, chocolate. All Atkins friendly. I personally have been incorporating more Mufas into my Atkins WOE. It has been proven that by eating more MUFAS with each meal that you will lose weight and when losing weight, it targets the belly fat. Which is the biggest part of my body now. I'm really happy that I read the article and gained the knowlege to incorporate more MUFAS into my Atkins WOE.
              Sincerely, Sherri

I finally found an extra virgin olive oil I like, and it's all I used to cook with. I hope it starts on my belly fat soon, cause I haven't got much boobie left
