    Re: Yep - Aspartame

Just a couple of thoughts.. Diet Rite soda, zero everything.. (no caffiene, sodium or calories) made with splenda. Lot's of flavors, it's a real treat for me, but I only have one a day if any, and count the splenda carb.

Second, Stevia sounds like a nice sweetener alternative. I've ordered some, and hope I like it. Natural herb, 10x sweeter than sugar, and good for you.

I don't know about stalls and such but I don't use artificial sweetners at all. Here is a little excerpt as to why...

"Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death. A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include: Headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by ingesting of aspartame: Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinson's disease, alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.

Aspartame is made up of three chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. The book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," by James and Phyllis Balch, lists aspartame under the category of "chemical poison." As you shall see, that is exactly what it is."

It is so bad for you... Water is the ultimate beverage!

        Re: Yep - Aspartame

I'll just say that it makes me hungry. I had a tava at work in case of emergencies since the entire office is a flippen carb buffet half the time. Well, yesterday I drank it and was hungry ALL DAY! I literally could not eat enough and the craving was coming from my mouth instead of my stomach (not sure if that makes sense) So, no aspartame for me. Unfortunately, I find Splenda sweetened sodas too sweet. I'm gonna miss that aspartame tanginess but it was almost an instantaneous response. Quitting soda is hard, I used to drink a Quad latte and a very large diet rockstar everyday and I had to take a day off work I felt so crummy.

          Re: Yep - Aspartame

It varies with individuals and how your body interprets aspartame. In about 25% of individuals, your body confuses aspartame as real sugar/glucose and it can trigger the same insulin reaction as real sugar/carbs would - thus slowing weight loss just the same as if you'd upped your carb intake.

The best way to test your tolerance is to introduce it back into your diet slowly and if you see a stall, remove it. If the stall remedies itself, you know you are sensetive to it.
