Hey everyone. Quick question!! I plan on going on a one day fast in the coming week, this is strictly religious and not in any way, shape or form associated with loosing weight. I was wondering though since im on induction how this will effect my diet. I know that your body will go into starvation mode without food (really clueless on when that happens, just know it does) and I just didnt want to gain alot of weight when I do eat again. I plan on having liquids just no food and was just curious what your insights where on this. Like has anyone done this while on Atkins, and has it affected your weight loss after? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance. Lindsey

Re: Fasting?
Like what liquids do you mean? I know there are broths and such (soups) that are atkin's friendly. I guess I need to know what you mean by fluids.
I just checked the acceptable foods for induction and there is bullion and broth so you could do that. If you don't make your own and do cubes/packages, just read and make sure they don't have any hidden sugars in them.Last edited by Porcelain; February 10, 2008, 02:20 PM.

Re: Fasting?
I would think if it's just a one day fast you shouldn't do too much damage? make sure you get lots of liquids..... I don't agree with fasting for weight loss reasons, but for religion, if it's important to you and your faith I think you should do it. I'm not a religious person myself, but I do think your faith is just as important as your woe.Jen, 39, F

Re: Fasting?
I fast for spiritual reasons twice a year for a week. It may put you in deeper ketosis so make sure you are getting those fluids or you'll be a mess. 1 day should be too bad but since you are already in induction you will probably feel induction flu-ish unless you are doing heavier fluids (like broth with fat in it etc)

Re: Fasting?
Out of curiosity, would you consider yourself fasting if you liquified a steak and broccoli with some heavy cream and butter and drank it like a shake? You could do that, I'm just wondering like I guess where the limit of "anything you want" falls. At some point I imagine it would be like you aren't *really* fasting and so would negate the purpose?Grant

Re: Fasting?
If you limit it to broth and water, you'll have no problem staying in ketosis, but I wonder if you'll feel very well? That doesn't seem sufficient to keep your blood sugar level. Maybe you could thin a V8 out with water----say a 20 ounce bottle over the course of a day, thinned with water as a soup? I think those 20 ounce bottles have like 15 net carbs but at least offer you something to keep you from spending the day fatigued.
As for hitting that starvation mode, I think that would take a lot more than one day of fasting. many of us have come close to that on days of the flu or stomach bug and not gone into a stall afterwards.

Re: Fasting?
Don't drink V8, it has added sugars and NO fiber and would probably do a number on your blood sugar and make you feel WORSE! Stick with chicken broth (stay away from canned stuff, you wouldn't believe the nasty ingredients--make it yourself from real chicken), water, hot tea, etc.START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: Fasting?
I guess I should rephrase that!
The juices are from concentrate, meaning you're getting the sugar from the veggies (tomato, and carrot, as well as others) with barely any fiber. Not to mention that carrots aren't legal until Rung 8 of OWL.START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: Fasting?
That's true. But then, fasting isn't a rung at all
I just figured we'd get the Sgts Wife through with the least amount of agony
Personally, when I had my mouth wired shut, there were a lot of happy people
But I could liquify a can of Chef Boy Ardee with the best of them

Re: Fasting?
I see your point, but drinking something higher GI/higher carb than she's used to isn't going to do her any favors in regards to her blood sugar, it might even make her HUNGRIER!START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170
