    Re: sore throat remedies?

Wow, a thread about sore throats and all the singers come out in droves. For me, the remedy was honey tea with lemon but I've found that the lemon is what really kind of cuts the mucus a bit. It's not soothin anymore but it gets the job done. Sinus baths or neti pots are a must to get the junk out as all that drip is what is irritating our poor thorats in the first place.

I hope your throat feels better soon and I hope you don't have a performance soon so you can recover. I never understood how we singers can be in perfect health for weeks and then RIGHT before that major gig we come down with the sniffles.

On a sidenote, when we were having company one night I asked my husband to pull out the cream and sugar for the coffee, and he almost put the cream in my netipot, which I keep in the kitchen cupboard next to the sink. lol Luckily I noticed it before anyone else did.
LOL to be honest I wouldn't have known what it was either! i'd have been one of your guests sitting there thinking: wow she doesn't even know she's put the cream in a gravy boat

Do you do it daily? does it hurt? the thought of putting anything up my nose creeps me out.

Bad luck. I got a sore throat before a show once, and I ended up without a voice for a week afterwards.

          Re: sore throat remedies?

Thanks for all of the tips! I have used a neti pot before, I have to get another they realy are helpful, however I have the most stubborn sinuses in the world and as great as it is, it just isnt good enough most times.

I was iffy about sugar free cough drops, not that I have seen the labels but because I looked at the label on some sugar free candy (peppermints) in the store
once and saw even though it was sugar free it was still loaded with carbs! Whats up with that? So I was skeptical about sugar free cough drops as well. Probably not same thing though.

Cant do butter in the tea as interesting as it sounds, no dairy or fatty stuff before preformances, it coats the throat and not in a good way but then again, no reason why I couldnt do it for soothing purposes just here at home, thanks!

eformances it coats the throat and

I so didn't want to do it but it worked wonders. It doesn't help with the pain of your throat but it does help to unblock the sinuses, do it directly before a performance and you won't feel like you can't hear yourself. I know! It's strange!
your a riot! lol so funny! the things we do for our at home treatments!

No, it doesn't hurt. You have to tilt your head at just the right angle to get it to work though. Otherwise insetad of the water running out your other nostril it runs down your throat (ewwwww). I mix a little salt with warm water and use it to flush my sinuses. Before I had heard of a neti pot I would snuff a little salt water into my nose if I felt a sinus infection coming on and it worked really well.

No, I don't do it daily. Maybe twice a week, more when there are lots of nasty bugs around. Right now everyone around me is sick so I have been using it every day for the last week and a half.

I looked up neti pot last night. I am 30 never heard of it. So, on bad connection not able to view demo video. I am left to think it looks painful. But, the wiki page sad some people do it the same as we brush our teeth. Well, whatever works!
