  • Did I ruin everything?

Hi, so I'm very upset with myself. I've been on the diet for 6 weeks now, and I'm still doing it induction style, because I find it easier to maintain... Anyway, last night I went out to dinner with a friend, and I accidentally ate a piece of a sushi roll with rice! I didn't even think about it! I didn't know what I had done until 5 minutes after I did it. Have I ruined my diet? What do I do?

You haven't ruined anything! You are going to be okay. Old habits die hard and we are used to putting anything in our mouths we want to. Do you use ketosticks? You can watch those. One time, I ate some chicken that had breading on it (which I realized too late) I watched my ketosticks and I didn't even get out of ketosis because I was so good on my diet otherwise. Just don't let this get you into a mindset of "I blew it I might as well eat cake." That is the worst thing that you can do.

One other thing, and it might not do it since it isn't really "sweet" Sometimes those cravings for carbs come back with a vengance when you have a slip up like that. Just know this if you get any and don't succumb to them and you will be right as rain in no time.

I can't say much more than Porcelain did except that you can never ruin everything unless you give up totally.

My last time around with atkins I messed up at least 2 times accidentally after first starting out and luckily because I didnt give up and just go off plan, I didnt get bumped out of ketosis either. However, I did once but it didnt take no time before I was right back in.

If you ever slip up just dont give up get right back on the horse and pretend it never happened.

I say if you just had a small amount you may still be in ketosis. I on New Years eve, had a small pina colada (opps not thinking!) and they had NO friendly food... so I gave in... I guess all the dancing burned the carbs? I tested keto + in the morning but light pink.

I gave up for two weeks and I am sure you can get back on track too... easier than you think if you get right into it....

Just an FYI, alcohol will give you a false positive ketostix result.

Like everyone has said, just continue on and don't throw inthe towel because of one small mistake. Remember this is way of eating for life!

I'll join the chorus of "just carry on". You'll be fine. The important thing is to learn from past mistakes and look to the future.
