    Re: I'm so discouraged

My story is very much like yours. I started my first induction in 2002. My first time I stayed at induction level carbs for several weeks then started adding other foods. I just didn't do owl correctly as I started adding rung 3 items (berries) when I should have been only adding rung 1(more veggies). This time is something like my 4th restart. I never seem to get past induction just blow it after a few weeks. I have not really ever gone back to the old way of eating just not really doing Atkins right.

This time I am going to do it right and you can too. I use Fit Day to track my fat, carbs, fiber and protein. I also think too much protein stalls me and might be part of your problem. I am currently keeping my protein to no more than 80 grams per day. Any more than that turns to glucose. Here is a good article regarding how to caluclate how much protein we need. I was stalled for 3 weeks following my 2 week induction. During induction I kept my net carbs around 15, this week I added more veggies and cream cheese and cut protein from over 100 grams to 65grams to 80grams. I have lost 2 pounds this week. Yellow cheese seems to stall me as do nuts. I am really going to restrict those items this time around.

I really intend to get to maintenance this time. Like you, I am tired of being fat and tired. Doing OWL by the book is the secret to continuing weight loss and learning what we can eat so we can maintain our weight loss when we reach maintenance.

Hope this helps. We can do this!

      hey kansas deb and canIdoit
It's great to hear how others are working with-and around- the program. It is definitely a balance to find a way to eat that you can live with and then also lets you lose weight. I am trying to be strict but i just CAN NOT add everything up i eat everyday- i mean i keep loose track of carbs but not protein or fiber. I know that when I have lost weight on atkins before it was basically because i just lost my appetite after a while and stopped eating as much. still waiting for that to happen this time!

        Good morning Ceecee,
How are you today? A good way to keep track of your carbs, protein and fiber, is to use fitday, www.fitday.com just plug your food in and it does all the calculating for you. It takes a little time to get use to using it but once you get the hang of it, it's a wonderful tool.
        Wishing you a great Sunday.

Thanks all for your advice and encouragement. I'm going to the bookstore today to buy the book - I'll post more about what happens (I'm especially curious if the people who think atkins doesn't work the third, fourth, fifth time one tries it are correct. My suspicion is that many of us who do it over and over are cheating a lot more than we think and thats why we don't lose the weight, not because our bodies become "resistant" to the diet)
          good luck all!

          Hi, ceecee

Have you visited the STAC forum yet? (Second Time Around Club) I have a special place in my heart for second-timers, and I made a post in the daily roll call today, that I would love for you to read. Here is the link to the roll call:
          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...8&page=2&pp=10

It's a very supportive place - you should check it out, if you haven't already.

          Have a great Sunday.

Don't you just love these veterans!! They are great! They have all been there - where you are and where I have been. They know the ropes and are not willing to let you give up! You can do this but you must get some success under your belt to feel back in control! Get back to the Atkins induction in the purest form- and that means no cheating!! You have to decide how bad you want to lose weight and get healthy. These boards are not only here to offer support but they also offer accountability. We all want you to succeed! You can do this if you set your mind and heart to it!! Get going!!!
