      Re: pains in my legs

There is another post "Leg Pains". Maybe read thru it and get some suggestion from it. I had some aches & pains before I did this WOE, but know my pains are gone from eating low carb. I am not a medical person nor can I give you any advice on this or tell you what to do about it, but I always took motrin or tylenol for my pains and that worked. A hot bath helped me too.

If it's muscle cramps you're getting, it might be that you're not getting enough potassium. I'm trying to remember here, so don't quote me, but a lack of some nutrient will cause muscle aching and cramping. I can't quite recall, but it might have been potassium. Find out what it is and check to see that that's not contributing to this particular issue you're having.

Here's basically what I'm doing to average a 2-4lb loss each week:
          • Free Weights M, W, F 40 minutes
          • Cardio T, Th, S 90 minutes
          • Average Intake=1300-1400 Average Expenditure=3200
          • Low sodium (attempting - it's really tricky!)
          • Grazing Approach
          • Use of vitamins and whey protein isolate

Okay I should have just done this right off the bat, but I think I recalled correctly. If you search at Google on "lack of potassium causes muscle cramps " you'll probably get some evidence to that whole story. Check the Wikipedia entry in that list for some good info. Now if your particular issue is not muscle-related, say it's joints, that still might be a nutrient problem, I just don't know which one

            Hope that helps.

              Re: pains in my legs

Not a doctor, but I was on a medication for high blood pressure, hydrochlorothyazide. Basically is was a diuretic, fluid control. One of the side effects of a diurectic is potassium loss. I was getting leg cramps before I went on the Atkins program, but I think it got even worse after going on it. A good source for Potassium is bananas, but since they are high in carbs, I take a potassium supplement, which can be bought at the vitamin aisle of most any drug store. In my case I quit the meds, after losing the first ten pounds, and the leg cramps went away. The weight loss got my blood pressure back under control without the meds. I still take the potassium supplements. Cramps can be caused by other electrolyte losses as well. Another thing you might try is Vitamin B-12. It is primarily for the nervous system, but it really helped me with the cramps, I rarely have them at the levels I did before. I was having to take Ibuprofen twice a day for the aches and pains I had, but didn't realize it was the blood pressure medicine that was causing them. I thought it was just getting older. Man I feel so much better! Go get some potassium and vitamin B-12, high potentcy. Again , not a doctor, but you might be surprised.
