going soon for oral surgery to have all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. How will this affect my diet as far as food choices for that day and however long recovery takes?

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
I just had some wisdom teeth pulled and I didnt find it to be as bad as a root canal. but anyway.... you should probably stock up on those atkins shakes... normally I don't recommend them because I think they are a dangerous avenue toward cheating but in this case I don't know how else you can eat!31/F/5'7"

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
Ouch! I had to have 4 impaced wisdom teeth taken out a couple of years ago. I wasn't on Atkins then but I know that for the first day I slept mostly because I was groggy from the anaesthesia and when I was awake I didn't want anything at all! Even if you don't want to eat try to stay hydrated though! After a few days of things like broth I was back to eating normally. Of course then I got dry socket and it was gross! But really in just a few days I was fine and eating normally. Stock up on things like chicken broth for the day of/day after. And remember that you can blend just about anything to make it go down easier! Blended up veggies added to the chicken broth might be just the ticket. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
I'm not the best person to be chiming in here, because after my surgery, I ate steak that same night for dinner!
BUT, it's best to eat soft foods. Many people complain of nausea, but generally I think that only happens if you swallow a lot of blood during the surgery. So, depending on how your operation goes, you might not even feel like eating.
Soft foods that you can eat would be scrambled eggs, mashed fauxtatoes, egg drop soup, chicken broth, pumpkin and cream cheese, whipped heavy cream, etc. Keep drinking your water, but whatever you do, don't drink it out of a straw--that "sucking" motion is what tends to cause dry sockets.START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
When I had all four wisdom teeth removed in the summer of 2004, I was so nervous beforehand, but breezed right through it. For foods, I had tons of over-steamed squash and zucchini, lots of mock mash, salmon, chicken broth, shakes, and I even allowed some low-carb ice cream: UFO's Cookies & Cream by the now-defunct Keto.
AVOID STRAWS, though - particularly in the beginning. Shakes are fine in and of themselves, but I cannot stress this strongly enough.

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
soups!!
Any cooked veg and meat can be wizzed into a puree and made into soup by adding cream and/or butter.
Kat58 recently posted a recipe for a sauce base using cauliflower and a couple of other veg which would make a good soup base too
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...98&postcount=8Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
LET me remind you to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no matter what you do DO NOT SPIT, SUCK, SWISH..... if you do any of these it can shift the blood clot out of the socket causing dry socket. That hurts a **** of a lot worse than just plain old wisdom tooth removal. Imagine the entire left side of your head feeling like its going to pop. If you must spit or anythign liek that PLEASE just let it fall out of your mouth, do not spit suck for at least a week. Follow the dentist insts. and if you need to rinse the sockets out use salt water
. It also helps relieve a bit of the pain. I have had dry socket before and omg.
For after care you may want to keep a cold pack on both sides of your face for a cpl days ot reduce swelling. Ibuprofen is good too. I would start taking that about 3 days before for swelling reduction.
Restart: DEC. 16th, 2009 (why wait for Christmas)

Haha. I had a root canal yesterday, and guess what I had for dinner? Yup, steak!

Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
I have had 2 root canals so far and the only thing is that it hurts a bit to bite down near those teeth when you first get em done. they are sensitive for 1-4 months. I am still waiting to get my crown done for the one root canal. Kinda sucks cause its just a temporary filling atm.Originally posted by dewdropinnHaha. Re: Wisdom teeth removal on atkins?
Yeah I have a temperary crown on as well. I get my permanent crown in 3 weeks. It is tender, and a bit sore, but I am so used to not chewing on that side anyway.Originally posted by MiryaI have had 2 root canals so far and the only thing is that it hurts a bit to bite down near those teeth when you first get em done. they are sensitive for 1-4 months.
