  • Veggie question - Induction phase

Hey guys i really need your help! Im on the induction phase, the only thing i eat is meat and drink low carb chocolate milk which is 5 total crabs per cup. I dont take all 20 grams of carbs a day and i dont do the whole net carb thing, i take >20 total carbs a day. I hit the gym and do cardio for about 30-40 minutes for my workout.

My starting weight was 330 lbs and so far im down 10 lbs, this is day 4 for me.

I just wanted some advice on what to eat, i heard alot of people talking about eating VEGGIES. I wanted to know how much and what kind of veggies you guys eat.

    Thanks in advance guys!!

Re: Veggie question - Induction phase

Griever, congratulations on your loss so far. I'm glad you're asking the question, because you really do need your veggies! The first thing I'd highly recommend is that you read the book... Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition.

Low carb chocolate milk shouldn't be added until later, on the dairy rung, which is probably a couple of months from now.

On induction, you should ONLY be eating things from this list, no exceptions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=3286.

Then, once you've done two weeks on induction, you can move up the rungs of the carbohydrate ladder, eating foods that are increasingly higher in carbs. Here's more info on that:

    Introduction to OWL... http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...?t=5211&page=1
    The OWL carbohydrate ladder... http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...?t=5516&page=1

Sure there are other ways to do low carb (successfully), but the threads above (and this board) follow the Atkins method, by the book. Which many, many people have been successful doing. So, take a look at those links, buy and read the book, and give it a try!

Congratulations again on your good progress so far!

The only thing you eat is meat? Your intake should be much more varied than just meat and chocolate milk! Have you read the book? I really recommend reading Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. The 20 carbs a day during induction shouldn't come from chocolate milk at 5g per cup, they should come mostly from vegetables so it is good that you are asking about veggies! I like raw veggies best so for my lunches almost every day I have a big salad of mesclun- rocket, spinach, beet leaves, radicchio, chard and more but no iceberg lettuce (I don't think it tastes like anything!). On the salad I usually have red onion, a few olives, cucumbers and sometimes peppers. SO very tasty and filling! I usually put a piece of turkey or a slice of cheese on top as well and then top it all with spicy rosemary and pepper olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I get it at the cafe in my work (the whole thing for £1, amazing price!) and the guy behind the counter calls me Rabbit-girl because I always get veggies!

I also often make green beans for dinner (I simmer them with a slice of bacon...so good!). I saute mushrooms almost every night because they are good on anything from eggs to chicken! Roasting bell peppers is always an easy and yummy dish. I also often saute a little onion to go with whatever I'm having for dinner. I have cut aubergines very thinly and then friend them crispy, they taste pretty good! And cauliflower is the most amazing vegetable! Not only is it good raw but you can make sauces, fauxtatoes and so much out of it. There are some amazing cauliflower recipes out there! There should be a least a few ideas here to get you started! Branch out from the meat and chocolate milk and read the book! You'll be glad you did!

hmm... well i feel kinda lost because i always ate meat, eggs (proteins) and the 5g carb choc. milk and was able to lose alot of weight before.

I also have a protein shake drink from atkins (atkins advantage), it is also 5 grams of carb, i do not take it daily but i do some days to get my vitamins and minerals.

I guess ill try to cut out the dairy and eat more veggies, but meat should be allowed just not too much of it.

Thanks alot with the comments you guys!! I really appreciate all the help!!

Yes the meat is allowed, but the veggies are mandatory! You're best to get your vitamins from veggies than from an Atkins shake .

check out the links that Adena posted, that will help you with the types of veggies you can have.

Although you may be losing weight the way you're eating now, not including the veggies (and the fibre that comes with them) is not doing your body any favours. You are also not learning to eat properly for LIFE. you need to learn to eat through OWL, in order to be successful in your maintenance.

          Good luck!
