  • FitDay Question

Hope this isn't answered somewhere else.. I currently have the PC version of CalorieKing. I looove it, because its so much easier to locate foods and so much more specific (ie brands, etc) than FitDay.. however, it tends to mark anything with less than a full carb as zero .. so now using it for Atkins can prove a little challenging.

For folks with Fitday PC.. Is the search for food items a lot better than their free online version? I'm crossing my fingers. I'm OCD about clean templates and organization, which is what drew me to CK instead of FD in the first place.

Also.. one drawback with CK is.. while I installed it on both my work and home PC so I can log items to check nutritional info at both computers.. they don't communicate with each other. Meaning anything I log at work I have to relog when I get home.

Does my online version of FD communicate with the PC version? IE if I log into the web-based version at work and log food items, does it update my home version so I'm not re-entering everything at home in the PC version?

    Hope that makes sense!

    Re: FitDay Question

No the online fitday stuff cannot be imported or synchronised with the pc version, so you would need to manually copy records like weight/measurements and redo any custom food entries.

I didnt spend 'too' much time copying all my weight changes as I didnt make them each day originally, so only had a few for each month to copy, but if you have been logging daily weight changes it might take a long time to bring up each day on the online fitday and add info to the pc version.

I copied my custom food entries from the online version as and when I ate those foods if I hadnt got the wrapper handy to use. And the old info is still there for reference if needed.

I like it because I can use it on my laptop when not online. This was really useful when we were away on holiday, as I could still use it to check I was on track.

Also it allows many more custom and favourite food entries than the online one, which used to irritate me by dropping entries off the display when new ones were added.

Another good facility is that you can set it to calculate net carbs by telling it to deduct fibre carbs.

It does have more reports etc too.

As to Calorieking marking foods as zero if they are less than one carb. Is that because it is rounding down? If so you might be able to get it to display the true carb count by setting the amount for 10 servings/tablespoons and see if it shows a number higher than zero.

So if there are 0.2 carbs in one serving it should display 2 carbs for 10 servings etc. I often do that with fitday when things I know have 'some' carbs are showed as zero just to get a better idea of how many I am actually eating.

We are lucky over here in UK as our labels on the whole state numbers for 100 grams/mls of any foods rather than those pesky small serving units which are listed as zero.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I have FD PC, and I like it. It has its good side and bad side, but mostly good. One big drawback is that it doesn't synch your records.

And, yes, the food search in FD PC is way better than the online, but they are not very specific as you pointed when it comes to brands, etc. But, you are not likely need to be that specific anyway.

I like it, I cannot live without it anymore, haven't worked on the CK, but you may wanna give FD a try.

        Re: FitDay Question

I use FitDay PC as well. It could do some extra stuff but we likely won't see any updates. As long as I can add in the brand name stuff I buy, I'm happy. In fact it's rare that I use foods from its database. Generic stuff like butter or bacon I use though.

I like the wide variety of reports and the charting and the goal tracking. Not to mention, it's really nice to see the nutrient data in many different ways. It's a very good program, but I haven't tried other PC apps. I tried a number of Mac versions cuz I actually use a Mac, but none were as easy or full-featured as FitDay in my opinion.

Here's basically what I'm doing to average a 2-4lb loss each week:
        • Free Weights M, W, F 40 minutes
        • Cardio T, Th, S 90 minutes
        • Average Intake=1300-1400 Average Expenditure=3200
        • Low sodium (attempting - it's really tricky!)
        • Grazing Approach
        • Use of vitamins and whey protein isolate
