    Re: Milk question

There's nothing wrong with the milk itself, once you are on the diary rung of Atkins. But while on induction, you shouldn't be having lc dairy products other than cheese and heavy cream.

I'm not saying you won't lose if you do drink it... but it depends on whether or not you want to follow Atkins by the book.

    Good luck to you!

      Re: Milk question

      No it's not OK.

If you're on induction, you should be eating only induction foods. This milk is not legal for you yet, but it will be legal on Rung 2 of OWL. I remember you had posted a question about this earlier and had received the same answer I'm giving you now. As much as you'd like to believe that someone out there will tell you it's ok to drink it, here at ADBB we follow DANDR by the book, that means for induction, you must eat foods off the acceptable foods list.

It's not the quantity of carbs as much as it's the quality of carbs. During induction, at least HALF of your daily carbs MUST come from vegetables, the remaining few carbs come from cheese, eggs, and special category foods. There are 54 veggies on the induction list to choose from! These veggies are non-negotiable as they provide nutrients and fiber neccessary for your body. Sacrificing vegetables for 5g of chocolate milk is neither sensible, nor healthy, nor is it Atkins.

You can drink the milk if you want, but then you wouldn't be doing Aktkins, you'd be doing Grieverkins.

        Ha ha ha ha!

Griever-- I have to agree with the others. When I first did "atkins" (or I guess Amykins according to Julie!) I hadn't read the book and all I knew was that I should keep my carbs under 20 grams- I didn't exercise really and I didn't eat many veggies. I did that and I lost weight but there is no comparison between that time and my current atkins adventure. This time I've read the book, I'm eating veggies. I'm really doing it right and I've got to tell you- I feel amazing about it. Sure it is hard sometimes but I know I am making healthy eating habits that will last me beyond just a quick diet. The point of atkins is not just to lose weight, Griever, it is to be a healthier you by encouraging better habits (diet and exercise) from the beginning. Downing lots of chocolate milk (even if it is low carb) is not the way to go about training your body for a lifetime of healthy eating. If you continue with just meat and chocolate milk (like the other post you wrote) then you will probably become bored pretty quickly and even if you make goal weight you probably won't know how to maintain it. I hate to say that, really! But there is a fix- read the book and follow what it says. Your body and mind will love you for it! You can do this, Griever! Try it by the book for two weeks and I bet you will be feeling so great about it that you will certainly think twice about going back to chocolate milk. We're here for support as you do this! Good luck!

Griever, don't worry about asking questions, that is what the board is here for! But absolutely positively definitely go and read DANDR and some of the faqs on this board. They will answer so many of your questions. Good for you for deciding to do atkins instead of grieverkins! You can do it!
