  • An eye opening experience

So I just finished making my first attempt at a low carb cheese cake. I made it with a chocolate layer and a lime layer with a swirled top. It looks really good. So after word using fitday I figured out the numbers for 1/8 of the cheese cake. OMG, even without sugar (used sweet perfection at 3 calories and less than a carb per cup) and without a crust it STILL has 630 calories 11 net carbs! I am scared to even look up the counts for a normal cheese cake. Think of all the foods I used to eat. Doritos, sandwiches, veggie lasagna, pasta, chocolate bars, hot cereal etc and I must have been eating 500 carbs a day easy. No wonder I gained weight and felt like h*ll. Just wow. Needless to say, a serving of low carb cheese cake with be closer to 1/16 than 1/8.

    Re: An eye opening experience

I find myself doing the same thing! I used to eat what I thought was "good food" and then getting frustrated that I was still stuck in the 200s and wondering why. It was like a light went off and I finally got it. This afternoon my daughter left some oriental cracker mix out on the counter. The thought crossed my mind about snacking on a few. BUT immediately I knew that it would throw off my metabolism and wreck all the work that I have done. I really like losing weight. It feels great and somewhat addictive!

Exactly! I started gaining when I was eating the "healthiest" and didn't get the junk food habit until last year. I was a vegetarian for 7 yrs but all I did was live off grains and beans. Huge servings! I would make beans and rice and eat what in owl would be 20 servings! ****, I would eat carbs on top of my carbs and adding junk food only made it worse. I finally passed the 10 pound mark and realized I haven't felt starving, deprived or tempted because I am happy with what I eat and how I feel. It amazes me the more people haven't found this way of life.

Yea, when I think about what I used to eat, it's amazing the carbs that I took in.

By the way...I love your mini-goal rewards!
