I wasn't really sure where to post this, food and cooking? Health Chat? Suppliments? LOL so i'm posting here!

Anyone tried Salba yet? I've seen it mentioned on a few shows, so I bought a bag of it today. Quite expensive (14.99 for a small180g bag of ground it also comes whole), especially compared to flax, but it is supposed to have amazing health benefits..

    From their website:

Salba® is the richest whole food source of Omega 3 fatty acids and fibre found in nature. Every serving (12 grams or approximately 2 flat tablespoons) of Salba® provides over 2,400 mg of Omega 3s, over 4,500 mg of dietary fibre, with less than 0.5 net carbohydrates per serving. Gram for gram, Salba® provides six times more calcium than whole milk, three times more iron than spinach, and fifteen times more magnesium than broccoli. Salba® is all-natural, has no trans-fats, is gluten free, has almost no carbohydrates, and is certified Non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism).

It smells and tastes to me very similar to flax. When ground it looks like flax meal, whole it is little tiny beads more than seeds.

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with it..tried baking with it etc? So far i've just added it to a protein shake (couldn't tell it was in there at all).

According to this website (http://www.fullofenergy.co.uk/?page=salba) it is a grain
"Salba is an ancient grain as old as the Aztecs, so precious it is was offered to the gods during religious ceremonies. There is evidence that it was used as a food as early at 3500 BC the seeds were eaten alone and mixed with other seed crops, drank as a beverage, ground into flour, included in medicines and pressed for its oil.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Isn't flax technically a grain? I think the definition of grain is "the seed of a member of the grass family" (which would also make corn a grain, not a vegetable)
I've also seen a lot of health benefits touted for Chia seeds....yes, those same things that were on those cute little Chia Pets. never heard of salba.
