    Re: I've given up

Have you posted your menu for someone to take a look at? Maybe the moderators/admins can help. Have you had blood work to see if there's an underlying cause (such as hypothyroidism which I have)? I hate to see you so frustrated. I don't want you to give up (even though I understand why you want to). Please hang in there.

Post what your eating so the experienced mods can help you out.You may not be eating enought fat, maybe too many calories or be ingesting a food that your body does not agree with, for me eggs kept the weight from falling off. Also as stated above there could be a health problem or med that is slowing your progress. Re: I've given up

If I gave up after not losing for a month, I would have given up almost two years ago and would probably be above 300 pounds. It should not be all about fast weight loss. Have you factored in the other positive things that have happened?? It could be that your subconscious is just waiting for you to give up again. You just haven't been at this long enough to know what will happen if you stay on track for a couple more weeks. It's your body and self esteem, so you are free to quit if you want to, but please try something else right away. You know the way you were eating does not work for weight loss or better health.

Best of luck, whatever you decide to do with your life.

          Re: I've given up

          Hey,

These guys are right, there are a lot of factors that could be affecting your stall. Also, I know a stall seems like forever when it first happens, but later on it can be common, so you need to switch from the induction mentality - where the scale will reward you every time you get on it (or so it seems) to a WOL/maintenance phase. I won't lie it is VERY frustrating, but you need to keep at it, in order not to gain and ruin your progress so far.

A range of things to consider - some of which have been mentioned:
          - thyroid levels
          - are you eating enough?
          - are you eating too much? Work out your BMI and see if you are getting enough calories.
          - have you found your CCLL and gone beyond it?
          - Are your vitamins the problem, something in them that is causing a stall?
          - Are you exercising enough?
          - A you cheating in any way? (I don't mean that judgementally - it is a prob for me)
          - Are you drinking enough water?
          - Have you double and triple checked the ingredients on EVERYTHING you eat/drink?
          - Are you on OWL? If not your body maybe benefit from switching up?
          - Could it be yeast overgrowth? See Chap 25 DANDR and the special forum and stickies on here.
          - Are you giving this WOL your all, or are carbs creeping in? Still measuring food and actively counting carbs?
          - Any other hormonal issues? Stress in your life right now (besides the stall).
          - Could it be a new food you have added?

That is a lot of questions to consider, but before giving up I think everyone should ask themselves all of the above in order to give the WOL a chance to work, or to carry on working. You don't have to tackle them all at once - but take some time to think about it over a few weeks.

Best of luck with what you decide.

            1. Are you losing inches? Dr. Atkins said that the loss of inches represents fat emptying from our cells. The scale can be deceptive in that you might be losing fat, but retaining water. That will show as "no weight loss."

            2. Weight loss plateaus are a way of life in the weight loss game. Think of it as your body taking the time to adjust to all the changes you've made to it. Giving up is the worst thing to do, because the chances are you'll regain the weight you have lost and will have to start all over again from square one---that's a big waste of time, if you ask me.

              Re: I've given up

You body is probably just adjusting to the new loss and preparing for another big round of losing. Weight loss goes in cycles and if you give up now you will undo the pounds that you have already lost! Do some reading on set points. As you body loses it will find a new set point and then hover there for awhile before giving up and losing again. The process happens over and over. The plateaus may only last a few days or MONTHS. I know this was true in my gaining weight and know that my next set point is coming up. Because I know this, I am just going to keep living the way I am until my body decides, "heah, food keeps coming, vitamins keep coming I guess I don't need to save for a rainy day" If you give up you will gain the 19 pounds back. If you keep going you will start losing again and even if you don't, you are 19 pounds lighter. Don't concentrate on what you aren't losing, concentrate on what you have already lost.

PS: if you do give up, next time will take longer and you will probably plateau sooner.

                Re: I've given up

One thing that is guaranteed to get you farther away from your goals rather than closer to them is GIVING UP.

The people who already posted gave you some fantastic advice and insight. Listen to them.

My longest stall was 14 weeks. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and keep on plugging away. Giving up won't get you anywhere and then the only thing that's going to happen is you're going to be older and in the same boat without the benefit of being able to look at where you are and say to yourself, "I never gave up." You're not always going to be rewarded the way you think you should be, but that doesn't mean you're not getting closer to where you want to be.

If you're not ready to do what it's going to take to get where you want to go, there's no shame in that. There's a difference between saying , "I'm not ready for this right now, but I'll be actively working to get ready." and saying, "I give up."

We've all felt like you do - but this is crunch time Mirya. THIS is when what you do really counts. THESE times are when you figure out what you're made of.

So? What are you made of?

                  Re: I've given up

Do not give up. I just went through a month where I almost lost nothing. I was frustrated but I started looking closely at my diet. I decided I was probably eating way too much sour cream and rotisserie chicken. I moved onto OWL 2 and then 3 and cut back on the sour cream and chicken and have lost every single day now for two weeks.

If you quit one thing is guaranteed....your weight won't be going in the right direction.

                    Re: I've given up

There's been some great advice in this thread.

Have you been measuring your inches every week?
                    Have you taken progress pictures?

I went through a big PISS (post induction stall syndrome) period where I only lost 3 lbs in a month (I'm a big, active guy who loses quickly, so 3 lbs in 4 weeks is a stall for me) yet my measurements and pictures were drastically different.

                      Re: I've given up

Mirya, I was stuck at 210 lbs. for almost 5 weeks. However, I didn't give up because I knew that I'd rather have been stuck at 210 than go back to 240 (where I was absolutely miserable). One thing I found during that period is that I'm sensitive to almonds (gone) and cream cheese (gone). Evaluate your foods and see if there is something in your WOE that might be stalling you. It only takes one food to hinder your weight loss. PLEASE don't give up.
