My husband wants to go out to dinner, and so he suggested mexican villa, which is in the ozarks of Missouri. Well anyways, I called and spoke to the manager and asked if the meat has sugar? His response was he is not sure, or if the seasonings have sugar, but even if he knew he would not be able to give out that information. OMG that burns me so much. I told him that it was for health reasons and he said "oh well, I cant give out that info", and to call the 1800 number on monday.

Re: Oh this makes me SO MAD!!!
Oh and one more thing. I just called another mexican place and asked them if there taco salad has sugar in the meat or seanoning, and they told me no that the use paparika. Has anyone ever heard of using this before. I just am really weary of going to places to eat and not seeing what they use. And having to go by what they say

Can't give out that information? I think that he just doesn't know, and can't be bothered.Originally posted by sweetz0625Well anyways, I called and spoke to the manager and asked if the meat has sugar? I eat out Mexican a LOT. In fact, that's one of my favorites. We have a great local restaurant right down the street from me, and I always get their ultimate fajitas. It's a combo of steak, chicken, shrimp, onions and bellpeppers. When they bring it to the table, I toss the tortillas, and just pile the cheese, sour cream, and guacamole on top of the fajitas, stir it up, and eat it with a fork. Not a very pretty dish like that, but really good.
It's true that I don't know exactly what is in the seasonings, but I feel relatively safe with fajitas... pretty much just meat and veggies. Good luck!

I do understand their side though. A lot of places keep their businesses afloat by their particular flavor and finding out whats in them in particular could cost them business if youre a competitor calling.
But more than likely I agree - he wasn't about to cater to someone and find out.Start: 162.0 | Current: 161.0 | Goal: 120 | Age/Height: 25/4'9" | RESTART DATE: 09-01-2008 | PHASE: Induction

I wish we could say sugar was an allergy. Like how they will be upfront about nuts or soy or shellfish. *rambling*
I think paprika is fine, I dont believe it has any sugars.Start: 162.0 | Current: 161.0 | Goal: 120 | Age/Height: 25/4'9" | RESTART DATE: 09-01-2008 | PHASE: Induction

Re: Oh this makes me SO MAD!!!
Paprika is a chili pepper. I use both hungarian and south american paprika (hungarian is hotter) we are allowed to eat herbs and spices on atkins. What most people consider spices are actually mixtures with a ton of added ingredients. If you go to the actual spice section you can use any of the non-mixed spices. They will also use oregano, onion, salts and perhaps some other herbs. Most good ethnic restaurants use the individual spices or mix there own. IMO learning to use and investing in spices is a huge benefit to Atkins.

I have a nut allergy and not everyone is upfront. I have to have my epi pen on me at all times. Some places won't bother to look or forget that walnut oil is still walnut and others will assume I'm just another dieter who won't notice. It's gotten bad enough I won't eat any dessert at cafe's or regular restaurants. The better places tend to be more willing to go out out their way about it. Honestly that epi pen has a reallllly big needle for me to take chances.Originally posted by MrsBrittneyI wish we could say sugar was an allergy. LOL. If I called and asked for their secret blend of spices, that'd be one thing- but "Hey...is there sugar in __________" -
Nah. He was either a butthead or he was clueless- but it sounds to me he was most likely both. LOL

Paprika is supposed to speed up your metabolism. It's a spice used for all kinds of dishes, including chicken, Mexican, Hungarian, etc. If you're craving Doritos, mix together 1/4 tsp. paprika, 1/4 tsp. cayenne (red) pepper, 1/4 tsp. chili powder and 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese. Put some pork rinds in a bag; pour in the seasonings and shake. PLace them on a cook sheet and bake for 7-9 minutes in an 250 degree oven. Yummy!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
