  • Whats a good answer?

    Hey everyone,
I am a little stuck and wondering what is an ideal goal to set for myself by the end of April. I am graduating from college May 1st and am wondering how much should I lose by then. I dont even know what is possible or realistic. I really want to be dertermined to lose before family and relatives get here, but I dont know if I should 5 or 50 lbs. (not seriously) but anyways, can you help me. I am 151.5 well yesterday I weighed in at 150.4, so let me know what your take is?
    Thanks
    Christi

      Hello Christi,

First, Congratulations to your lost pounds forever!
You've lost 7.4 pounds since Induction. That's excellent considering you only have approximately 25 pounds to go. I'm hoping you're moving onto OWL now and adding 5 grms of carbs from your other Veggie list, pge 126. You can also go by the power of five rule page 174 DANDR.
I think it would be safe to say you could lose another 10- 14 pounds by May 1st. Remember this isn't a race. It's a lifestyle. You're learning to replace unhealthy eating habits with healthier ones. The last pounds will come off slow. Just the way we want them to. It will make your transition into Maintenance a healthier and safer one as well.
      Hopes this helps.
      Sincerely, Sherri}{

She's right on target. Just keep with the program and the weight will come off. No one can say how much since it's individual, but I am losing more moving through OWL than I was on induction. When I keep my fat ratio up I do lose better. I like it 70% and above.

I'd aim for 135-140 by the end of april - but only if you exercise your butt off.

                  Re: Whats a good answer?

Congratulations on losing 30% of your total hoped-for loss already

Probably one reason you have not had many responses is that there is no way anyone can say how much weight you 'should' lose.

Your body will decide how much it loses and in what timescale, and to be frank - the only thing you can do about it is to aim to stick to the rules as closely as you can to give it the best chance of success!!

As you have about 18 pounds left to lose I would agree with the suggestion that you move to OWL now and start adding carbs to see how your body handles them and start discovering your CCLL.

Exercising will help you immensely too, and might make you smaller in size even if you dont reach that magic number goal! Many members post that Atkineering reshapes their body as they lose fat and add muscle so they can wear smaller clothes than they were previously able to do at the same weight.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                    Re: Whats a good answer?

congrats on such a tremendous loss already! That's how much I lost last time on Induction and I had approximately 60 pounds to lose! LOL. Keep in mid that once you lose a large amount in the beginning, it will level out for the rest of the month and your losses may be very slow, if at all...it's just your body's way of catching up. Totally normal. I would definately reccommend taking your measurements b/c I found that there might be a month where I lost maybe 5 pounds, if that..and I would drop pants sizes like it was nothing. LOL. And exercise will absolutely speed things up.

This is just what I find is true for ME..might not be true for you...but I find that whatever I lose during the first 2 weeks is about all I am going to lose the first month, and then I generally stay around that same number of pounds lost for the following months. But being that you are so close to goal, I am not sure how it would work for you. I would say maybe another 10 pounds?

I am also 5'3 and our stats are very similiar! Good for you for getting into shape and then having babies. I have 2 already and it's much harder. Great job!!! =]

If you don't mind me asking, what size jeans did you wear at your highest weight and at your current weight?? I am so excited to see where I might be soon. LOL

                    Take Care!

                      Re: Whats a good answer?

Hi thanks so much for your sweet reply. I was at my highest weight for not long at all. My whole life I was in the 130's 140's, and then I went on the depo birth control shot. Once I did that I went from 132 to 182 in 5 years, yeah what a bummer I hated it. (I wouldnt recommend that shot to my worst enemy), it is just awful. Anyways, I decided to get off of the shot in late 2002 and weighed in at 182. I immediately went on atkins, and in 2 months time went down to 143. Yea it was quite a shocker, and since the weight that I gained was hormones, I have NEVER went up to my highest weight again. I think I wore like a size 14, but anyways I was in my mid 140's and stayed there happy with my weight until my about 3 months before my wedding (2005), and I went on atkins again. I went down to 132, I wanted to get down to 125 and was 7 lbs from it, but I stayed at 132 for awhile and the weight has slowly started creeping up on me the past few years. But I refuse to gain a bunch of weight, and so if I see myself starting to creep up in weight I immediately get on the bandwagon. Well, the weight has krept up over the holidays of 2008 to 157 (which I could not believe that I let it get so out of control), just last summer I weighed 144. Ugh. So anyways, here I am on atkins dedicated to losing this weight. Right now,my pants size is a 9, but when I am at goal which is 132. I wear a 3-4 to 5-6, but also in other brands as much as a 7-8, and half of my closet right now are those sizes, and I dont fit into them. Well, I graduate from college in May, and I want to fit into my clothes in my closet, well that and I have A LOT of family coming. Isn't it funny that I live in a different state right now from any family, and so my old mentality was that it was okay to be a few pounds over my goal weight when they are not near. But when I have family coming, I work my butt off getting back to my normal size. That was my old mind, and I am working on changing that, because I want to be at goal all of the time. After college which is an added bonus to lose the weight now, me and my husband plan on getting pregnant (well depending how long it takes), but anyways I want to weighed my goal or close to it, so that the weight that I gain wont be on top of what I weigh right now. Anyways, I hope this has helped you. Keep trucking along, the weight will come off soon enough. It always does, that is what I have to tell myself, even though it is so hard. I always want to eat crap, but I know THIS IS THE ONLY PLAN THAT HAS EVERY WORKED FOR ME.
