How much Sodium can you have a day? If you eat a lot of food with Sodium (legal) in it, is it just water weight that you will shortly lose or is it weight that stays on you and causes you to keep on that weight?

Re: Sodium
For all we need salt in our system, as with most things, too much isn't good for us. The RDA recommendation is 2400mg of sodium a day, which sadly most people don't come close to. Salt is added to as many things as sugar is in our pre-packaged lives.
You will 'lose' retained water when your salt levels drop again, but that's the least of the heavy sodium issues. The american Heart Association recommends no more than 1000mg of salt per 1000 calories eaten daily, and don't exceed 3000 for the day.Ron, 38 y/o Male 5'11"My WOE blog: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...2&page=1&pp=10

Re: Sodium
The easy answer is that it is just temporary water retention. Drop the salt intake and lose the water.
I only salt my eggs in the morning, some meat and a few other things. You really don't need very much salt. But I don't think there is much of a health issue unless you are really pouring it on.Start 7/5/2004
