  • Does cream upset your stomach?

I have been trying to up my fat lately...especially on days I have skinless chicken like when I boil it to make chicken broth/soup. There is some fat in it but not enough.

Well, I had me some cream. I know we can have 3 oz a day so one day I had some and that night/next morning BAM! Diarrhea (sorry if TMI). I used to have irritable bowel before doing Atkin's correctly but I haven't had trouble with it really since, maybe once, so I thought this was part of that. THEN, last night I had some cream and again, diarrhea last night and this morning.

I don't eat a whole lot of cheese. I've never gone over 3 oz in a day and some days I don't even have cheese at all, mostly just raw veggies and meat. Am I lactose intolerant now? I heard the longer you go without it, the harder it is on you when you have it. Is there anything I can do? This is really annoying because I like the taste of cream.

On the good side, I know now when I get constipated on Atkin's I don't need to take any medicine, I can just drink some cream.

I've had trouble with cream as well so I've stopped using it... but then I'm asian and a lot of asians are lactose intolerant. I now just eat aged cheese instead to get my calcium and a little more fat in. It used to just happen with un-aged cheese like Kraft American slices, but I've learned I do much better with aged cheddar (aged at least 6 months). Apparently the longer the cheese ages, the less lactose it contains. Now that you mention it... when I was off plan for almost all of February during my move, I noticed I had trouble eating anything with sugar in it. I wonder if I've been on atkins for so long that maybe my body just can't tolerate sugars like it used to (regular, and milk sugar- which is lactose). It's only been a week since getting back on plan and reinducing ketosis and I haven't had any problems since.

    Hope this helps.

I wish I had this problem lol. Sometimes I am majorly contipated and have to suffer. I have yet to find a food that makes me go. Sorry TMI

Linn, I haven't had much of anything bad since I got on the diet in mid January but I did have one bite of ice cream and a (one) cashew and I just didn't like the taste at all. This has even intensified. I ordered fajitas the other day with plans to just eat the meat some of the veggies but even the meat tasted too sweet and didn't sit well with me. If I were to eat a piece of cake or something right now, it would probably make me ill.

Sweetz, it's never TMI with me, I am a nurse we actually ask people we don't know how they are pooping and we even, at times, want to look at it.

I wouldn't take a laxative regularly, that just makes me nervous. Have you tried supplimenting daily with pure psyllium or Flax seeds (not the meal, just eat a couple tsp every morning). It can take a couple weeks to start working but it won't hurt you the way laxatives can.

It may take a long time for your system to adjust since your body can become dependent on laxitives to the point were you won't be able to poop without them. Coming off the laxitives is gonna suck and probably hurt but depending on how long you're been using them you may need to. It won't matter how much fiber and bulk you have if you colon and intestines don't actually move anymore.

Yes, your body will become dependent on the laxatives. I've never EVER had that problem. Always been on the other side of the stick. If I were you, and the psyllium and increased water intake doesn't work, I would definitely ask my doctor.

I have I have yet to find an ATkins friendly Dr ( we're military so not too many choices),...they all say the same thing..that atkins doesnt have enough FIber yada yada yada..even after I point out that I am getting MORE than enough fiber, that I eat my vegies, exercise and drink my water..they just send me home with more laxitives...

I picked up some FIber Tabs today.. ( cannot swallow the pills YUCK).they have sorbitol so I hope that doesnt mess me up too much

Oh, that is so frustrating. You have to poop, you just can't NOT poop. I tried to send you a private message but your box was full.

Hi Miss! I'm learning yes. I'm similar to you. I have/had IBS and it gets better with Atkins so long as I don't use heavy cream. I can do fairly ok if its IN things, like a sauce or quiche, but if I use in coffee etc - the next morning or sometimes even within the hour, I'm all poo's. Its not all dairy as I can do cheese just fine.

His MrsBrittney, I am the same way. I eat my cheese and I am fine. I bought the cream to go in quiche adn I don't have trouble when I eat that, but when it gets towards the end of the day and I can't get enough fat, every now and then I got the bright idea to have that cream straight. It tastes good but I pay for it. I am wondering if it gets better if you keep trying it or if I should take Lactaid tablets. I am hoping by the time I get up to the berries rung, I can have some frozen berries blended with a bit of cream for a mini smoothie. -crosses her fingers- I know with this if you don't use it you lose it and I haven't had any milk or ice cream in forever so that is probably why.
